Youth Justice Officer - Solihull

Salary: £31.16 Per Hour Umbrella

Full Time – Monday-Friday 09:00-17:00 HYBRID (Cover for one Saturday a month if required)

Role Purpose:


  • In conjunction with other agencies the post holder will assist in the planning, development and delivery of services for young people who have offended or are at risk of offending.
  • You will be responsible for the assessment of young people and subsequently the developing, planning and delivery of individual programmes to prevent young people from becoming involved in crime and for those who have already offended, implementing these programmes with other youth offending team workers.
  • You will provide advice and consultation as appropriate to partner agencies on their work involving young people who have offended.
  • Demonstrating commitment to the development of best practice through partnership working aiming to reduce youth crime and increase community safety.

               Key Responsibilities:


  • Supervision of young offenders and young people at risk of offending.
  • Work in partnership with the Police, Probation, Health, Courts, Education and other agencies in respect of supporting young people within the service.
  • Interviewing and assessing young people, their parents and carers using specified assessment tools.
  • Compile risk, safety and wellbeing plans to manage and safeguard young person and others.
  • Take responsibility for developing and planning a variety of individual and group programmes in order to prevent young people becoming involved in crime and to support those who have already offended.
  • Ensure programmes match the diverse needs of young people.
  • Assist in the provision of support and guidance for parents/carers.
  • To manage cases in line with National and Local Standards.
  • Prepare reports for Courts including reports for sentencing.
  • Represent the team in the Youth Court, Magistrates Court, Crown Court and at the Police Station.
  • Liaise with officials of the Court to assist in the youth justice process.
  • Prosecute breaches of Court Orders.
  • Liaise with other Youth Justice Services (YJS) and probation in the transfer/caretaking of cases
  • To act as Duty Officer for the YJS and carry out such duties as required within the role, and business requirements of the service.
  • To implement evaluation processes with all children / young people / parents / carers and others.
  • Attend and where appropriate chair multi agency meetings.
  • To work in conjunction with YJS colleagues to provide a consistent approach with young people and their families.
