Year 1 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant WESTMINSTERKey stage 1 (KS1) LSA in Central London

Hays Education are working on behalf of an Ofsted rated 'Good' Primary School based in Westminster, North London - they are looking for a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, who is experienced in supporting children with special needs, on a 1:1, small group, or whole class basis.
You will be supporting a high functioning boy with ASD, he needs a strong routine built into his day and someone kind but firm to be a consistent presence for him in school.
As well as developing and delivering personalised learning, you will work with colleagues to support pupils with their daily routines, transitions, and positive behaviour management.
Your responsibilitiesAs a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be required to:

  • Organise the classroom and learning resources.
  • Provide pupils with academic and emotional support.
  • Provide personal care to pupils if required.
  • Promote and encourage independence and personal development in pupils and maintain high expectations of behaviour at all times.
  • Liaise with colleagues effectively for the benefit of the students and working environment.
  • Provide a safe learning environment for the children.
  • Get the classroom ready for lessons and clearing away afterwards to maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Record and report a pupil's progress to the teacher.


RequirementsGCSE Maths and English Language qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.

  • Have a valid in-date Enhanced DBS (preferably on the Update Service).
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
  • It is essential that they have experience providing specialist support to children with SEN and preferably 1:1 support with children who have moderate to severe behavioural difficulties.
  • The ideal candidate for the school is someone who has experience working with either Autism, Dyslexia, Challenging Behaviour, PLD, MLD, PECs and Makaton.
