Brief descriptionWe’re seeking someone with strong technical ability and leadership skills to join our Specialist Fleet Services (SFS) team as a Workshop Controller.Purpose of the roleThis is a key role within the workshop and will be a productive participant within the workshop, the post holder will be the Senior Technician within the workshop with responsibility for the day-to-day control of a busy municipal workshop facility in addition to carrying out routine maintenance and running repairs to a varied fleet of vehicles / equipment.Duties and responsibilities
The day to day control of all aspects of a busy municipal workshop including shop floor work loading, service scheduling, quality assurance, work authorisation, close control of systems and the provision of technical advice and assistance, controlling of parts
Diagnose and perform maintenance repairs on a varied fleet of vehicles/assets
To ensure that all paperwork is completed within a reasonable time of a job being completed to a high standard
To ensure that all job cards have the correct information on them before being issued to the shop floor
To ensure that all vehicles are scheduled and MOT bookings are in place at least three months in advance
To ensure the service schedule is up to date at all times, and to recommend changes to vehicles on the schedule when required
To ensure that vehicle maintenance history is checked when raising job cards to ensure warranty and repeat jobs are highlighted to the workshop charge hand/fitters
To ensure that customer/colleagues are treated in a polite and courteous manner at all times
To ensure paperwork flow from and to multiple departments is both timely and accurate
To ensure any work not completed at the time of the vehicles visit is rebooked into the workshop and any relevant parts are ordered and customers are contacted with new time and date for the work to be carried out
To control all holiday, to both control and participate in stand by and weekend working rotas to ensure adequate cover is available at all times
To notify the Contract Manager of any urgent issues or other matters which cannot be resolved by the Workshop Controller
To undertake any other relevant duties, assignments and cover at other SFS workshops when required
To ensure at all times ware possible that customer service and service provision is kept to the highest level About You
Skills
Relevant Experience in Heavy Vehicle Workshops and maintenance environments
Ability to maintain a varied fleet of both light and heavy vehicles
Municipal knowledge and experience
Experience in Motivating and Organising Staff
Ability to Complete Accurate and Clear Paperwork to Dead Lines
Experience in Dealing with Parts Suppliers and Controlling Stock Levels
Computer Competent, Operate and manage a Vehicle Management System
Excellent Customer/Staff Communication Skills and Telephone Manner
Strong Person Management Skills
Hold an HGV License (Category C)
Qualifications and relevant experienceWe are looking for someone who has either had an apprenticeship in the automotive industry or a HNC in Automotive Engineering and Science or equivalent. Having a CPC qualification in Road Haulage would also be an advantage along with a knowledge of Fleetwave management system.
Working hours45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day variable dependent on business needs (one hour for lunch).
