Connect have a number of exciting positions available with our Sunderland based client. We are seeking experienced Welding Engineers to join our clients busy team on a full-time permanent basis.
Our client is a worldwide supplier to the engineering sector, and are looking for a reliable and motivated individual to help develop the company further; receiving excellent company rewards, training and development opportunities.
Working as a Welding Engineer:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 36 - 40 hours per week
  • £40,000 to £45,000

As a crucial member of the quality department, you will contribute to the success of the company by ensuring adherence to quality standards, process development, continuous improvement, and supporting training and development initiatives.

  • Providing comprehensive support across the site with flexibility in handling various tasks as per business needs.
  • Ensuring products are manufactured in accordance with company procedures, meeting specifications, and supplying relevant supporting paperwork.
  • Conducting inspections at different production stages, including supplier premises, to identify non-conformity's in line with company procedures.
  • Collaborating with the team and working independently to support inspection and auditing processes, contributing to general quality-related activities and projects within the quality department.
  • Assisting Production with innovation, process development, standard operating procedures, and technology application for continuous improvement.
  • Inspecting materials, welds, dimensions, and painting processes, with the possibility of training and development.

To be success within this welding engineer role you will have knowledge of quality and welding management systems ISO9001 and ISO3834. Combined with

  • Some experience in EN1090-2 is advantageous.
  • Ability to support the improvement of processes and procedures.
  • Competence in welder monitoring, weld sequences/SOP, and distortion control.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and international specifications.
  • Knowledge of welding processes, with MAG being essential, and TIG, SMAW methods being advantageous.
  • Familiarity with materials such as S355-60, 690-60 plate and pipe, and 960-40 plate.
  • Experience with products like Harbour mobile cranes (Maritime cranes - Liebherr) and LR crawler cranes (Mobile and crawler cranes | Liebherr).
  • The ability to communicate information clearly at all levels, coupled with a methodical and logical approach.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills to support the department.
  • Membership in a professional institute (TWI, CQI, NACE, IIW, CMI, etc.).
  • Good IT skills.
  • Travel within the UK and Europe for a few weeks per year will be necessary.
