Waking Night Residential Childcare Support Worker

Salary: up to £12.48ph per hour depending on experience and qualifications

Location: Horsham, West Sussex

Contract: Full Time 55 hours per week. 10pm - 9am working five days on and five off.

We are looking for a friendly, outgoing and experienced Waking Night Residential Childcare Support Workers to join our friendly and professional staff team. Experienced candidates must possess a minimum of 12 months relevant experience and ideally possess Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent

Responsibilities:

  • To work 55 hours per week which will be a rota of 5 nights on and 5 nights off. In times of illness or crisis you may be asked to cover more shifts.
  • To promote the welfare of the children as defined in the Children Act 1989
  • (HMSO 011 321 4308).
  • To attend staff meetings / supervision for 1½ hours on a weekly basis when you have not been on waking-night duty the previous night.
  • To participate in training as required.
  • You may have to attend the young people's holiday, which is usually for one week in the summer.
  • To arrive in plenty of time to begin shift, read the handover book and to receive information in handover from the staff team regarding the evening's events and the individual young people.
  • To gain an understanding of the young people and their feelings, which will help you to assess, identify and evaluate their ongoing needs and develop strategies to meet these needs.
  • To present and promote a consistent approach to settling the young people at bedtimes.
  • To encourage hygiene i.e. brushing teeth every morning and last thing at night, and proper showering / bathing routines in the morning.
  • To record any disturbance throughout the night and hand this over to the sleeping-in staff or the senior on shift.
  • To fill in the Daily Register and Fridge/Freezer record books
  • To be vigilant in monitoring the young people throughout the night. To record all young people's movements in the diary/night log.
  • To carry out a live fire alarm test once a week and record it in the fire log book.
  • To complete, date and sign the set nightly / weekly tasks sheets.
  • To set out breakfast table for the morning, promote healthy eating, and to clear away after breakfast
  • To complete any other relevant duties as required by your line manager.
  • The safety and security of the young people is paramount and takes precedence over other night time tasks.
