About the Role
The People Team manages the full employment lifecycle within THC, from candidate attraction and onboarding, through to learning & development and employee relations.
Reporting to the Group Head of Payroll, the Payroll Manager will be a key member of the Payroll People Shared Services Team. As an experienced payroll professional and influential people manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management, coaching and development of the payroll team. The Payroll Manager will be adept at influencing and advising stakeholders of all levels.
The responsibility of this requires a seasoned Payroll Manager with substantial and demonstrable experience of seeing through end-to-end, high-change and high-volume payrolls, along with a deep understanding of payroll legislation.
Responsibilities:
Deliver accurate and timely processing of the Company's payroll in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and legislative compliance requirements. Develop and implement short-term and long-term payroll strategies, including implementing solutions that will make our payroll process more efficient. Partner cross functionally, including HR, Compensation, Legal, and Finance to provide payroll related advice to support the company's initiatives. Be the go-to person for business partners for all things payroll operations. Oversee timely preparation, review and auditing of all payroll data, quarterly IRS forms as well as w-2 processing. Review quarterly tax filings, year-end processing of third-party sick pay, adjustments, and group term life insurance. Perform periodic audits of the payroll system data to ensure accuracy of employee pay information. Design and implement process improvements and internal controls to the payroll process. Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates. Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practice. Facilitate new state registration with agencies as required. Participate in company audits by providing records and documentation to auditors. Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll taxes, garnishments, compensation practices, and policies. Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures. Overall responsibility for the successful completion of the weekly and biweekly payroll. Act as an effective controller of payroll information by reviewing and implementing improved processes, where appropriate, for the collection, collation, and entering of data. Update payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings, deductions, and job titles, and department / division transfers. Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes deductions, leave, and non-taxable wages. Build, maintain and adjust payroll controls - enhancing compliance aid controls to safeguard that key areas are identified and mitigated. Maintain payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures. Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential. Maintain professional and technical knowledge. Take overall responsibility for the effectiveness of the payroll team by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, and developing employees. Constantly monitor statutory and regulatory updates to ensure that emerging legislative and statutory requirements are identified and embedded into payroll processes so that THG meets its employer obligations. Contribute to team effort by compiling related results as needed. Effectively manage and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Ensure SLA / KPl targets are met. Requirements:
Certified Payroll Professional certification (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll certification FPC Proven experience as a payroll manager or similar role Current knowledge of payroll procedures and related laws Excellent understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes 5+ years of payroll processing and related experience required, including familiarity with both salaried and hourly employees across multiple states Extensive knowledge of the payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll taxes Familiarity with labor laws applicable to remote workforce, and workforce primarily based in California and New York preferred Proficient with ADP WorkforceNow payroll software People Management & Development Excellent Analytical Skills Knowledge of Compensation and Wage Structures Benefits Administration A deep understanding of relevant Employment Law Financial Acumen and accounting skills Previous experience of implementing HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) and Payroll systems (desirable) International Payroll Experience (desirable) Payroll Transformation Experience (desirable) Benefits:
