Description
The purpose of this role is to assist the Reinsurance Underwriting Heads in the delivery of high-quality client services and support them in the day-to-day management of their underwriting teams. This role sits within Underwriting Operations and requires a collaborative, team-oriented approach, as well as a service mindset and excellent stakeholder engagement. Acting as the point of contact for the Reinsurance Line of Business Heads, you help drive and coordinate strategic initiatives while maintaining an efficient operational workflow in support of the company strategy. You will report to the Reinsurance Technical Operations Lead and the Head of Underwriting Support. While this role is situated in London; Reinsurance operates under a so-called "One Re" model, therefore this role spans across both the Bermuda and London platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Day-to-day management of the Underwriting Support Assistant (USA) resource assigned. This includes maintaining optimum resource adequacy, identifying training & development needs and performance management in conjunction with the outsource provider
Oversee department operations such as submission, submission flow management, policy endorsements, renewal processing and associated housekeeping activity
Participate in the planning and forecasting process with the respective Line of Business leaders
Help ensure our underwriting is in compliance with operational regulatory matters, such as TRIA, GAREAT and that Convex is able to meet its operational regulatory reporting obligations
Coordinate line of business specific operational projects or initiatives and liaise with relevant cross functional teams in order to secure the resources required to execute
Act as the main point of contact and triage for any cross functional requests, which may include any requests and queries related to data used for outwards reporting, outwards reinsurance, compliance, or financial close
Close collaboration with our strategic outsourcing partners
Provide support to Underwriting Management ensuring that Underwriting Guidelines are adhered to and underwriting controls are performed
Monitoring of underwriting dashboards including exception and performance reporting
Work in accordance with the Convex Values and Service Standards
Each Underwriting Support Manager (USM) is tasked with a secondary responsibility. The main aim of this is to provide exposure to an aspect of the business outside of your "business as usual" responsibilities and to assist with your individual development. Examples hereof are:
Act as underwriting representative on a strategic mission/project
Be the dedicated Underwriting Operations point of contact for a Convex legal entity or Function
Attendance at committee/steering group and mutual sharing of information between Underwriting Operations and external teams
Management of outsourced/third party teams such as the USA pool
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Reinsurance underwriting operations experience within the London Market (preferably with an IUA bureau carrier), including people management and expertise with systems and tools such as the IMR, PPL, Whitespace and ADEPT
A good insight into the reinsurance industry, ideally across a variety of lines of business
Adept at problem solving and identifying and implementing practical solutions
Skilled at managing and communicating with multiple stakeholders effectively
Thrive in a fast-paced environment, working with speed and accuracy and an ability to prioritise effectively, particularly during times of pressure
Ability to use good discretion in working to resolve process or performance issue to ensure the success of our outsourcing model
Use your continuous improvement mindset to deliver a high level of service to relevant stakeholders
