The primary purpose of this role is to define the responsibilities and strengthen the controls and oversight of the Underwriting Function. The role will be an initial 6 month contract.
The project work outline and responsibilities are outlined below:
Phase 1
Agree response to SICSIC Report
Build controls framework
Log existing Underwriting Controls
Define controls and their purpose
Outline who has responsibility for controls, defining owners and contributors and identifying which controls policies sit under
Develop reporting, considering the audience and their requirements
Review escalation process
Define MI underlying individual controls
Deconstruct the Underwriting Controls Manual into its constituent parts:(UW, Ops, Exposure Management, Outwards Reinsurance, Compliance etc)
Responsibilities, Controls, Best Practice, Guidelines, UW practice, Regulatory requirements etc
Phase 2
Rewrite the Underwriting Controls Manual, describing underwriter responsibilities and the controls in place ensuring group standards are encapsulated
Comply with regulatory expectations (Lloyd's, PRA, CBI etc)
Identify owners for Responsibilities, Controls, Best Practice, Guidelines, Regulatory requirements removed from UCM
Review suitability of existing Underwriting Controls
Build additional Controls if necessary
Remove, edit or combine ineffective Controls
Identify improvements in underlying MI
Further Phases to be agreed as appropriate
Skills and experience
Understanding and experience of risk and control assessments
Design and maintenance of Underwriting Control Frameworks
Drafting clear and concise Underwriting Control documentation
Design of tools/MI to support performance each Underwriting Control
Ability to lead a project across business functions
