ATE Underwriter -
A unique opportunity has arisen at an insurance underwriter, who are a next generation global speciality insurer to add a second ATE insurance underwriter to its London based Professional Liability team (remote working considered). This is a rare opportunity, for an experienced litigation lawyer seeking a new challenge, to work closely alongside our existing ATE underwriting expert applying skills developed in private practice to take a meaningful role in building our global ATE insurance portfolio. The other ATE Underwriter was previously an insurance litigation lawyer at a leading regional law firm.
Responsibilities • Review and analyse ATE insurance proposals (typically including Counsel’s opinions, statements of case, expert reports and inter parties correspondence) liaising with the proposer’s broker and, where appropriate, legal team and experts - to form an assessment of the underlying risk and insurability; • Present findings and conclusions to lead ATE underwriter and management; • Determine appropriate insurance terms and premium; • Draft and amend ATE insurance policies; •Monitor the progress of bound policies; • Keep detailed and accurate records of policies underwritten and decisions made; • Build and manage relationships with ATE production and distribution sources and other key stakeholders.
Skills and Experience • Practicing litigation lawyer with minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience (insurance litigation is preferred); • Experience managing own caseload; • Ability to review, analyse and assess the merits of litigation; • Confidence in decision making; • Competency in legal drafting; • Experience reviewing insurance policies; • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaboratively work with others; • Strong written and oral communication skills; • Highly focused, enthusiastic and creative thinker; • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; • Ability to negotiate with sophisticated advisors and clients. of bound policies
