On the consumer side, we have Abound. Abound has helped us prove that our approach works at scale. While other lenders only look at your credit score, we look at all of the full picture – what you earn, how you spend, and what’s left at the end. We’re able to do this thanks to Open Banking.On the B2B side, we have Render. Render is the platform that allows Abound to make better lending decisions. By better we mean less risky. And less risky decisions mean we can offer customers better rates than they can usually find elsewhere. We’re taking Render global so that more companies can offer affordable credit to their customers.About the teamWe are a successful team underwriting team, going from strength to strength helping to lead the business in a time of rapid growth. We are looking for a Junior underwriter to expand our team; someone who is adaptable, diligent, and keen to develop themselves further.We pride ourselves on bringing affordable lending to the market whilst making the right decisions based on the customer spending rather than their credit reports. Our determination, approach, and resourcefulness set us apart from our competitorsWe are growing extremely fast and seeking like-minded, responsible individuals who want to build a career with a new start-up brand. In this unique position, you will be relied on to deal with customer applications that we are unable to process. This is due to a mismatch of details or new information brought to light after completing the Open banking assessment. The goal is to save as many deals as possible however, part of the role will be to manoeuvre customers through to a decline.We have an open plan office and encourage the lateral communication of different departments to bolster individual expertise, knowledge growth, and collaborative support where you can apply your experience and skill set to help develop and improve aspects of the business and yourself.This role comes with the opportunity to become a full-time underwriter as are of the team.How we work (Shifts, weekends, and bank holidays)8 am – 8 pm, which is split into 2 part team shift pattern and sharedWeekend work is required – Saturday and Sunday – returned in Overtime or time in lieuBank holidays – Minimum of 2 bank holidays per yearWho you are:Minimum 2 years’ experience in a credit underwriting environmentTarget-driven with an understanding and desire to achieve our goalsExperienced in working with near-prime lending, or a start-up environment would be a plusCompliant to credit policy and procedures and changesThe ability to adapt to a fast-changing environmentEnjoy working as part of a team‘Customer First’ attitudeExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExceptional organizational skillsA strong work ethicStrong time managementWhat you'll be doing:Make decisions on new unsecured personal loan applications using our cutting-edge credit decision technologyCarry out an in-depth analysis of Open Banking resultsAssess customer affordability and ascertain their creditworthinessShape the processes and procedures we use in underwriting to continue to make them betterReview and evaluate credit reportsCarry out Fraud and AML checksFollow underwriting policy and proceduresLiaise with customers to capture information and document where necessaryAbility to work independently and take steps to enhance own knowledge when required.Provide support to other team members and to wider departmentsWork in a queue and strong pipeline managementProduce high-level quality work and use your excellent attention to detailsWhat we offerEveryone owns a piece of the company - equity25 days’ holiday a year, plus 8 bank holidays2 paid volunteering days per yearOne month paid sabbatical after 4 yearsFree gym membershipSave up to 60% on an electric vehicle through our salary sacrifice scheme with LoveelectricTeam wellness budget to be active together - set up a yoga class, a tennis lesson or go bouldering
