Essex County Council are recruiting for the below Travel Trainer Vacancies.

  • 1 x Full Time Travel Trainer, Send Specialist Education, Covering all areas of Suffolk, Classroom Based.
  • 1 x Full Time Travel Trainer - Suffolk, working in Sudbury, Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds and surrounding areas.

Send Specialist Education Trainer - We are seeking a motivated and energetic individual who can deliver lessons and training in the classroom, plus practical support in a 'real life' setting. The work will be varied, focussing on developing and promoting our educational provision within schools as well as working 1-2-1 with students in various locations across Suffolk to train them on how to access public transport on designated routes such as their home to school journey. When leading the classroom-based sessions you will be educating our students through a structured school-based programme.

Travel Trainer - This role focuses on achieving positive outcomes for young people and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities within the Suffolk area, supporting them in becoming safe independent travellers and enabling them to live richer, more fulfilling lives. You will support young people on a 1-2-1 basis to train them on how to access public transport on designated routes such as their home to school journey.

Both roles are diverse and you will work within a highly motivated team of Travel Trainers. Role responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver travel training to clients on a 1:1 basis
  • Visit young people and adults in their homes
  • Develop bespoke training plans for each client, considering their additional needs and complexities of the route
  • Provide ongoing feedback to the client and referrer
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new organisations
  • Attend events
  • Support the wider travel training team where applicable

What you will bring

  • Educated to 'A' level / NVQ level 3 within a relevant sector, plus 5 GCSE's A-C (new GCSE 4-9) including English and Maths, or equivalent experience in the field.
  • Experience within an SEN or adult social care setting is essential, and you should be able to evidence your passion, energy, and enthusiasm for working within this sector.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Motivated to instil confidence in others whilst building strong rapport.
  • Highly organised, able to manage your workload efficiently, with good IT skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Essex County Council are delivering Travel Training for Suffolk County Council. You will be working in and across the county of Suffolk. Please note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle.
