The Development Engineering organisation is accountable for proving that the SMR power station design meets its objectives and requirements. It is also accountable for providing data and evidence to support the development of the power station design through the execution of test, demonstration and research and technology programmes. This encompasses not just the domain of nuclear engineering, but the broader range of engineering functions necessary to deliver a major infrastructure project.
Our test programmes cover a wide spectrum of the engineering disciplines, including thermal-hydraulics, mechanical, civils & modular construction, controls & instrumentation and materials & chemistry.
We now have an exciting opportunity for a Test Lead – Thermal Hydraulics to join the Test Capability Team to deliver design development and verification test programmes to support the thermal hydraulic design of the power station.
What we’re looking for
Reporting to the Testing Manager, as Test Lead you will own the delivery of one or multiple thermal hydraulic tests within the Rolls Royce SMR Test Capability programme.
You will lead integrated project teams in the definition, planning, and delivery of test programmes (depending on the type of programme, this could include activities such as design, analysis, test specification creation etc.) and drive delivery through effective programme management throughout the entire test lifecycle. You will use knowledge to coach and support test rig design engineers.
You will effectively manage programme risk and demonstrate the maturity of the rig design/build/test to stakeholders via a governance review process.
You will work with the Supply Chain team to establish and build relationships with external partners for the execution of their test, and they will act as the primary intelligent customer and point of contact during this relationship.
Key selection criteria for this role are:
Thermal Hydraulic Test Programme Development
Experience in the definition, planning and execution of thermal hydraulic test programmes to ensure they generate the required verification or validation evidence, including as applicable through scaled tests or sub-element testing.
Leadership
Experience in leading cross functional teams who deliver.
Presenting Information to stakeholders
Experience in taking information, understanding, and presenting it in an appropriate and compelling format, which includes formal communications such as gate reviews to the appropriate stakeholders.
Problem solving
Ability to identify risk or issues early and proactively resolve them with minimal supervision. Have a proactive, positive attitude, with the desire and ability to learn fast, challenge conventional thinking and make a difference.
Project Management
Ability to develop and maintain robust plans and budgets. Drive for delivery to committed time and cost. Ability to govern and control quality assurance. Appreciation of risk management principles.
Qualification
• Qualified to degree level or equivalent in engineering discipline.
• Be professionally recognised through an appropriate professional body or be working towards it.
• Project Management qualification is desirable but not required.
• Nuclear experience is not required for this role but is desirable.
Pay and Benefits
We anticipate paying a salary between £50,000 to £62,000 (skills and experience dependent) plus the following benefits:
• Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
• Benefits Allowance – £2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
• Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
• Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.

• Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
• £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
