Job Description:


We are looking for a Test Engineer to work for a large rail company based in Hatfield.


This will be a 3 month contract with an immediate start.


Shifts will be Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 16:00


This will be temporary labour to assist with the activities due to illness of a team member.


As a Test Engineer you will be an important integral part in assisting with a scheduled production workload along with a service function to specific turnaround times to return the repairs to the customer. A key role daily will be to receive and give support to other departments such as Design Authorities, Production and Service Planners, Quality Assurance along with Health & Safety.



Work to be undertaken:



  • Final inspection of various electronic equipment and mechanical testing/inspection of point machines.

  • Final inspection includes visual inspection of PCB boards and usage of Go/No Go Tester in accordance with inspection plans.

  • Point machine test/inspection covers visual inspection and running of the point machine through a set sequence checking against an inspection plan.

  • Training will be available.

  • Test and repair electronic signalling equipment in line with procedure.

  • Repair of PCB’S (Printed Circuit Boards) to component level.

  • Work to departmental procedures including work instructions and test technical notes.

  • Accurately record test results information.

  • Achieve workload schedules for product and service repair.

  • Re-Working/Repair to recognized quality standards in accordance with ICP610.

  • Operate PC driven bespoke functional test equipment.

  • Use commercially available test equipment i.e. Digital Voltmeters, Meggers, Oscilloscopes etc

  • Understand circuit diagrams, bills of materials/parts lists.

  • To comply with, undertake and promote all relevant Environment, Health & Safety measures, responsibilities and activities.



Essential Specialist Skills/Experience:



  • Mechanical and Electronics quality background.

  • PPE

  • Qualified to ONC/HNC/CITY & GUILDS equivalent in electronic engineering Desirable

  • Having served a recognised engineering apprenticeship or degree

  • Experience working in a test/repair role in a manufacturing industry

  • Experience of working on electronic Safety Vital Equipment

  • Experience of testing railway signaling equipment

  • Knowledge of Printed Circuit board testing down to component level fault finding

  • Experience of ATE (automatic test equipment)

  • IT literate

  • Allocation of workload and monitoring of results
