North Warwickshire Borough Council is seeking to recruit a committed and highly motivated individual with a proactive attitude and proven track record of working with tenants to resolve issues that will assist them to sustain their tenancy and prevent them becoming homeless.

The successful candidate will be required to provide practical advice, information and support on a wide range of issues including housing, welfare rights, personal finance, life skills and the promotion of personal independence. You will work with tenants and applicants who have approached the Council for re-housing and develop personal support plans that will identify actions to help them sustain their tenancy. You will need to undertake financial assessments and provide advice that will enable them to manage their money effectively and maximise their income. This will include specific interventions such as budgeting and financial advice, assisting customers to make welfare benefit applications and foodbank referrals.
You will need to work with private landlords to address tenancy debts and negotiate re- payment plans that will enable the tenant to stay in their home and prevent them becoming homeless. You will also need to work closely with other local service providers and partner organisations to provide advice on a broad range of financial, benefit and social issues. This will specifically include the Department of Work and Pensions concerning customer’s claims
for Universal Credit.
Experience of working in a social housing environment or service that provides money/debt advice or welfare benefits is essential as is experience of working in a customer facing environment and dealing with difficult or complex situations. You will have a good understanding of welfare benefits including knowledge of housing benefit and universal credit. You must have a good understanding of financial support mechanisms in the local area and nationally to support financial hardship and be able to communicate well with customers to understand issues and resolve them. Possessing a high level of personal and professional integrity is essential.
Appointment to this post will be conditional upon receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of criminal records via the Disclosure and Barring Service, before the appointment is confirmed. A Basic check will be required. This will contain details of convictions and conditional cautions considered to be ‘unspent’ under the terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
