Technology Development Manager – Personal Care & Cosmetics

As our Technology Development Manager for our Personal Care division, you’ll be our industry expert for technologies into the personal care & cosmetics markets. You will be providing support and advice on both new and established products, technologies and processes whilst championing initiatives which support more sustainable technology solutions.
You will be leading the Personal Care and Technology Development team whilst ensuring the execution of the NPD program and new technology platform developments identified to support the business & market strategies. You’ll be leading cross functional global project teams and supporting our business managers in making informed, by expert knowledge, decisions that enable the management of all aspects of risk associated with the selection of formulations and processes.
Alongside this you will represent the company externally to identify and define new ideas & opportunities for technology product and platform developments and, for personal care & cosmetics market, integrate resulting projects into the work programs & portfolios as part of the business & key market strategies.
You’ll actively consider and manage all IP, regulatory and legislative implications of work carried out by the personal care and functional polymers technology team. Either leading individual patent applications or managing internal work to challenge competitor’s patents and liaising directly with the company’s patent attorneys.
Some of your key responsibilities:
You’ll work with the company’s Operations teams to provide guidance, technical support and assistance, as required, in order to resolve production quality issues or support raw material approval processes.
You will be attending conferences & exhibitions, delivering external presentations and conducting literature surveys to identify and define new ideas and own the technology roadmap of the scientific, technology and patent landscapes for new areas of strategic interest including, working closely with the Group CTO.
You’ll manage external consortium and university research projects and actively seek external funding opportunities to support such programmes, leading the process to obtain funding.
You will lead and manage relationships with key customers, suppliers, trade associations, universities etc., to maintain knowledge and understanding of the personal care & cosmetics market, to refresh the project portfolio and to represent the company technically.
You’ll be involved in active participation in industry and trade association working groups and committees globally.
You will be actively engaging and liaising with the Group Product Stewardship function to ensure that sustainability considerations and assessments are at the forefront of new product and platform developments for the personal care or natural polymers business and are fully considered for existing product ranges.
What do I need to be successful in this role?
Demonstratable knowledge of working on the development of natural polymers and the application of personal care & cosmetics into liquid formulations.
You’ll have significant experience of working in an R&D environment and practical use of stage-gate project management tools.
You have demonstrable experience of successful delivery of new products and new technology platforms from lab through into full production scale.
Previous experience of managing a team of people in a R&D environment.
You have the ability to understand the chemical regulatory, legislative and patent environments related to new technology development.
You have strong knowledge and understanding of developing new polymers for personal care applications.
