Job DescriptionTechnical Superintendent (Tankers)Salary: Competitive, Plus BonusLocation: Glasgow, UKA global shipping company, based in Glasgow is currently seeking an experienced and organised Technical Superintendent to join their friendly and professional team.The company caters to clients located across the globe which include, public listed companies, private family-controlled shipping interests and government shipping enterprises.From their formation up until the present day they have maintained a vigorous proactive approach to the shipping industry.Education and Training:Minimum Chief Engineer’s licence and relevant experience as 2nd Engineer on board Tankers, or a degree in either Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture following successful completionof the Company’s Graduate Training Programme. Other relevant training, qualifications and experience may be required as determined by the General Manager.Responsibilities:Under the overall supervision of the General Manager, and the day-to-day supervision of theFleet Manager, the Technical Superintendent is responsible for the efficient technical operationof the vessels allocated to him. This shall include, but is not limited to, the following:Monitor legislative and regulatory requirements to ensure their assigned vessels areoperated and maintained in full compliance with all Class, Flag Administration,Governmental and International Regulations;Assist in preparation for oil major inspections (SIRE) and responses to observationsraised;Monitor, review and action as necessary all technical information and reports receivedfrom the vessel;Visit vessels on a regular basis to review general condition, compliance with safetyprocedures, implementation of Partners in Safety program, and performance of ship’sstaff;Ensure a comprehensive Planned Maintenance Programme is effectively implemented by ship’s staff including assessment of all vessel requests to defer jobs;Ensure strict implementation of the Company’s Marine Pollution Manual;Ensure accuracy of EU MRV and SEEMP II plans including associated records.Ensure each fuel and lubrication oil analysis report is reviewed and sent to the relevantvessel’s Chief Engineer, providing necessary recommendations and comments relatedto the report findings.During vessel inspections, convene a Safety Meeting with all crew, with attendance tobe documented accordingly;Ensure vessel attendance planning page in IMS is maintained up-to-date;Ensure the timely submission to Owners of all technical and inspection reports, etc.Participate in the interview process and scheduling for officers and crew as required;Conduct pre-joining briefings of Chief Engineers for their allocated vessels;Conduct incident investigations following technical malfunctions or environmentalpollution events;Prepare drydock and repair specifications for agreement with the Fleet Manager prior tosubmission to Owners (if required). Act as a member of the Emergency Response Team in the event of a contingency;Provide cover for any employee within their department as directed by the FleetManager.The Technical Superintendent is to liaise with all relevant operational staff to facilitate theefficient and economic operation of the vessels which shall include the following:Prepare vessels detailed annual budgets for approval by Fleet Manager prior toapproval of Owners;Ensure all requisitions originating from either vessels or the Operations Department areprocessed efficiently and fully expedited until received onboard;Ensure that any proposed or anticipated excess over the agreed budget has the FleetManager’s / Owner’s approval;Liaise with the Ship Manager and Insurance Department in the preparation of insuranceclaims and ensure all necessary technical information and reports are available toenable timely preparation of reports and payments on account
