UK Telecommunication Laboratory (UKTL)
The UK Telecoms Lab (UKTL), announced in October 2022, will give the UK the cutting-edge technology to keep our telecommunications networks safe, accelerate the roll-out of 5G, and grow our brilliant telecoms sector by bringing in new entrants to diversify the supply chain market.
As a trusted and independent national capability, the UKTL will interact at the intersection of standards bodies, such as 3GPP, the National Cyber Security Centre and the wider UK intelligence community, academia, Ofcom, as well as Communications Service Providers and telecommunication equipment vendors.
As a dedicated Technical Project Manager (TPM) you will take a leading role in delivering a range of projects and contracts that deliver to improve the security of the UKs critical national telecommunication infrastructure. You will be at the forefront enabling interoperability and vulnerability testing in telecommunications and networking tech stacks andyou will help to drive telecommunication security research, your projects will be dealing with carrier class networks similar to how what big mobile and fixed communication players in the UK operate.
Over the past year the UKTL has hired more than 30 telecom experts into out west midlands site near Birmingham. You will be working alongside these experts in a brand new, highly secure facility.
You will be delivering highly specialised technical projects on time, to budget and to the highest quality standards within our governance framework including:
Coordinate suppliers, technical experts and key stakeholders.
Planning, organisingand tracking project delivery
Identify and managerisks, dependencies, technical issues and roadblocks
Maintain financial controls and project cost, both opex and capex

As
Technical
Project
Manager
you manage medium complexity projects
within UKTL independently
.
There may be opportunity
to
line manage Junior Project Managers.
T
echnical
experience and abilities
:
Experience with hybrid on-prem and cloud environments
Mid- to expert
level experience
in delivery of information technology systems
in
data centres
and the cloud (
Azure
)
,
such as storage, servers,
networks,
firewalls,
telecommunication
hard- and software as well as the typical support services, such as DNS, DHCP, access control, etc
Working knowledge
in Telecom
munication
systems,
ideally
both proprietary and virtualised,
a
s well as
RF networks (4G, 5G)
Experience with cyber security and associated risk management
Skills,
Knowledge
and Background:
Track record
of leading and managing projects for
several
stakeholders
inside and outside
an organisation
Managing change within projects and communicating to multiple stakeholders across the business
Managing Risks and Issues within projects and communicating to multiple stakeholders across the business
Project
resourcing,
b
udgeting
and
f
orecasting
Reporting to Project Stakeholders and Customers within agreed deadlines
Excellent communication skills
Experience in developing and applying project management processes and tools, and a willingness to continually improve
Ability to travel both outside and within
the
UK
Proficiency
in MS Project
Industry recognised
project management qualification or equivalent is desirable
Ideally educated to
a
a
degree in the fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics
or equivalent level
of experience
