Our client, a family-owned Food Manufacturer, is looking for a Technical Manager for their site based in North London. The successful candidate will work as an integral part of the management team, supporting and advising the company on food safety, integrity, legality and quality issues as well as providing general technical support for relevant activities on site.
Reporting to the Managing Director, responsibilities for the role will include:
Keeping the company updated on any changes to food legislation or food authenticity risks that affect the site’s operation
Being the HACCP Team Leader
Implementing and monitoring the company’s food safety and quality policy through regular Internal Audits of the QMS system plus GMP, Fabrication and Hygiene Audits. Monitoring and maintaining the internal audit schedule
Updating the Quality Management System to meet internal, customer and new BRCGS accreditation requirements
Recording and monitoring complaints to identify trends
Being the main point of contact for the Pest Control Contractor
Maintaining the Non Conformance (NC) log to enable follow up investigations, RCA and close out of NCs raised during internal system audits, site external / customer audits and those arising from incidents highlighted during day-to-day production
Conducting training of key personnel against the requirements of the QMS
Designing, implementing and maintaining the laboratory testing schedules
Involvement in product development as required, including the documentation of recipes, QAS / factory product guides and completion of new external customer specifications
Updating existing product specifications in line with any recipe changes and other changes, including internal factory specifications, QAS / factory product guides, and external customer online portal specifications
Organising shelf-life monitoring of the existing products and newly developed products
Maintaining the product organoleptic assessments, documenting the findings and taking action if required
Essential / Desirable skills include:
Degree in a Food Science related subject, or equivalent Food Industry Qualifications
Experienced Quality Assurance Manager in Food Manufacturing
Experience of BRCGS accreditation and Major Retailer requirements
HACCP Qualified to Level 3 plus ideally experience as a HACCP Team Leader
Internal Audit qualifications and experience of factory auditing
Excellent communication skills
‘Factory first’ mindset, challenging compliance whilst offering possible solutions
The Company:
A well established family owned Food Manufacturing Business with a reputation for reliability and consistency
Supplying superior fresh and frozen bespoke products to a wide range of customers including the Major Retailers
Good track record of technical compliance in both BRCGS and customer audits
Working hours for the role are 8am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, with flexibility to meet the needs of the business. The salary is c £48k, dependent upon experience.
