We at Marmalade Game Studio are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Technical Artist with excellent technical skills, to join our team. We believe a broad range of perspectives leads to better games and successful teams, and nothing is more important to Marmalade than our teams.ResponsibilitiesWriting tools and scripts (in Unity, 3D applications and standalone)Working as a mentor to art team members who have an interest in technical art career progression.Maintaining and improving upon / standardising pipelines across 2 studios and several projects.Create, document and maintain an efficient multi-package pipeline for 3D development (Maya, Blender, Unity) to allow more free exchange of assets.Develop, optimise and maintain a library of Unity shaders usable across all projects. Work with engineers and artists to optimise performance on a per project basis.Routinely review (with art leads) tools, tech and processes to ensure efficient development methodologies.RequirementsStrong art portfolio specifically showcasing examples of technical art.Highly skilled in Unity developmentProficiency for problem solving and creative technical solutions to artistic problemsExcel in scripting in Maya, Blender and Unity (MEL, Python, C# etc)Technical understanding of optimizations and hardware limitations to address frame rate and memory budgets for both a mobile platform as well as PC and handheldExperienced in the creation of custom tools and shaders.Communication is key: must be able to actively and effectively work with artists / animators of varying experience levels, coders, leads and management.Ideally has experience in the mobile gaming space and is comfortable working on several projects simultaneously.Stay aware of current and future art and tech trends in the gaming space and be a champion for introducing state of the art processes into Marmalade pipelinesGames industry experience / full cycle shipped products is essential.Familiarity with common 2D and 3D packages such as Substance Suite (‘Designer’ highly desired), Maya, Blender, Photoshop, Zbrush.In depth experience of common source control software (Perforce preferred)Must be an excellent team player – role requires mentorship of other tech artists in the studio.Optional but valuable5+ years in a Technical Art role with multiple shipped titlesVFX experience (both developing and optimising)Programming knowledge (C++ experience would be desirable)Rigging / animation experienceWorking as part of a tight team in a company with a reputation for staff retentionFlexible working, we offer the ability to WFH, hybrid, or the ability to work from our London or Bath studioA key role in a studio where everyone’s effort has a big impactRegular social activities and team partiesCompany pension scheme, we match up to 5%Generous holiday allowance consisting of 22 days + a bonus 3 day holiday when the offices are closed over Christmas and New Year + extra holiday for long servicePrivate health insurance package48h a year of Professional development timeAre you our next superstar?
