Team Lead - Staff Physiotherapy Service

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced MSK clinician to join our Staff Physiotherapy Service to provide specialist clinical knowledge for Trust staff accessing this service. This is a permanent 0.5WTE (18.75 hours per week) post and will give you the opportunity to develop your skills in service planning and development, education and training, and clinical expertise. You will need to have excellent organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure in a busy department. You will receive clinical support from one of our experienced 8a Advanced Practice physiotherapists. There is a robust training programme within the department which you will have the opportunity to both contribute to and participate in. You will be supported to continue to progress your career within the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy. This role requires the successful candidate to rotate between St Richards Hospital in Chichester and Worthing Hospital to cover the staff physiotherapy services at these sites. Worthing and Southlands Hospitals are based on the South Coast, situated adjacent to the South Downs National Park, 20 mins from the City of Brighton and Hove, with excellent transport links to London and across Southern England. You will be joining a dynamic, friendly and supportive Physiotherapy Department .Main duties of the job
To be responsible for the day to day running and management of staff within the Staff Physiotherapy Service. Working within the Physiotherapy outpatient team, taking the responsibility for referrals and treatment of staff members into the Physiotherapy department To have overall responsibility for the training and development of staff. To take a leading role in the advanced assessment, clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with complex and/or chronic presentation. To provide an effective high quality service . To provide skilled team leadership and be responsible for service development within Staff Physiotherapy role, using any evidence-based practice and national guidelines. To implement policy and policy changes in own clinical area and to set and monitor standards of practice. To undertake evidence based projects, including recommendations for change in practice and to lead in appropriate departmental research in this clinical area. The post includes involvement in rehabilitation classes and 'back to work' programmes where staff are participating. To ensure appropriate communication links are established and maintained between the Occupational Health, Staff physio service, HR, Manual Handling Teams and Physiotherapy teams including SCT at St Richards and Bognor. To ensure accurate and relevant data collection is maintained, including writing reports to support future developments of the service

To be able to lead, motivate and persuade others (including staff and patients) through advanced communication skills, with the benefit of verbal and non-verbal skills, using written and electronic information where needed. To use communication skills of persuasion, motivation, reassurance and explanation to encourage patients to undertake their treatment programme and ensure understanding of their condition. To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise Rehabilitation potential, this includes patients with communication and understanding difficulties, e.g. dementia, learning difficulties, visual and hearing impairments, non-English speaking patients, To be able to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff including imparting unwelcome news. To maintain contacts with local and national clinical interest groups appropriate to the clinical field and to share and disseminate knowledge with colleagues working with the Trust. To communicate effectively and advise other disciplines both internally and externally to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to care both verbally and by providing clinic letters/discharge reports. To ensure good communication occurs with physiotherapy colleagues when there is a transfer of patients externally to other departments. To liaise with Occupational Health team members and Manual Handling advisory team with regard to staff care including ongoing treatment and future work related issues for individual patients & departments that will be highlighted. To arrange follow-up outpatient physiotherapy or onward referral for continuing patient care as required to ensure a seamless service is maintained. To be able to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff including imparting unwelcome news. To ensure timely and effective communication with the Outpatient Lead and senior staff on all professional matters. To liaise with Schools of Physiotherapy as necessary. To maintain an accurate record keeping system in line with CSP and HCPC standards and local guidelines. To attend and be an active participant in speciality, peer group and departmental staff meetings. To be able to motivate others through effective communication skills and to be able to gain co-operation where appropriate for treatment where there may be significant barriers to understanding such as cognitive impairment, memory loss. To actively promote and develop equality and diversity practices and strategic management in this area in order to promote equity of access of care for patients and equity of access to job opportunities and development opportunities for staff.
Service Delivery and Improvement
To provide specialist ergonomic advice (via workplace visits where required) regarding best evidence based practice and using ergonomic principles to staff Work in partnership with Service Managers to promote safe working practices and well-being of Staff referred in accordance with the Health & Safety Regulations and Trust Policies. Maintain and run a Library of resources available for staff on Health and Wellbeing and Health Promotion. Contribute to the strategic development of the service and speciality. This includes input into the service annual business plan and the formulation of relevant business cases and integration with the whole Musculoskeletal service aims. To ensure designated staff implement policy and service developmental changes. To ensure that the service responds to national initiatives and policy within the framework of Clinical Governance including clinical effectiveness, evidence based health care, managing clinical risk, and Research & Development issues. To work a rostered 7 day service when implemented.
People Management and Development
To advise on the management of frequent and long term sickness absence and suitable rehabilitation programme where agreed or report back to Occupational Health team as appropriate To be an active member of the formal departmental training programme by attending in-service sessions, delivering and attending training sessions both in house and externally and undertaking reflective practice. To ensure competence, through teaching and appraisal, of all staff working within the Orthopaedic Physiotherapy specialty. To be responsible for the Line Management of staff, including recruitment, career development, performance and work evaluation. To comply with and ensure implementation of all UHSFT and service policies and procedures and the Health and Safety at Work Act, including adherence to Universal Precautions and Infection Control measures.
Patient Care Delivery
To carry out assessment of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with complex presentations and to use clinical reasoning skills, knowledge of evidence-based practice and clinical expertise to determine appropriate care plans utilising specialist treatment skills and options. To devise an individualised Physiotherapy management and/or treatment plan, using clinical reasoning skills to utilise a range of treatment options in formulating a specialised programme of care. Always maintain patient confidentiality and dignity and support peoples equality, diversity, and rights. To be responsible for implementing within clinical practice, the relevant standards, and policies.
To maintain a high standard of clinical care using evidence-based practices and evaluates the outcomes. To be responsible as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant clinical caseload. To provide leadership for the Physiotherapy service, being available for expert advice and guidance on complex patients. To maintain professionalism in public/ rehab/ treatment centre areas. To lead delivery of high quality, effective rehabilitation programmes
To be responsible for the safe use of equipment used in carrying out Physiotherapy duties, adhering to the departments medical devices policy. This includes competence and accuracy to use equipment by your-self and other healthcare professionals, carers, and patients. i.e., cough assist, TENS machines and walking aids. To be accountable for own professional actions. To possess highly developed physical skills, dexterity, co-ordination and sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients. To work within codes of practise and professional guidelines.

Attend mandatory training updates as required. Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process. Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.
