(EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services (MHS) that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) Operations division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth/811 medical communications for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.We access all communities in Nova Scotia in a timely and efficient manner with our fleet of more than 180 ambulances and support vehicles operating out of 60+ stations. * Reporting to the Manager of Logistics, Facilities & Materials Management the System Support Technician Logistics (SSTL), Student, is a key part of a team that provide all EHS system logistical support requirements; designed to give optimal customer service and patient care. In addition, the SSTL Student will assist and provide general repair and property maintenance to Provincial Paramedic Base Station’s and support the distribution of Regional Paramedic Base Station medical supplies and equipment.Each SSTL Student is accountable to exercise “highest standards of cleanliness and maintenance available” in the industry. The Student Technicians are expected to conduct themselves in a safe and prudent manner. The SSTL Student’s will be largely responsible to ensure all Paramedic Base Stations and Posts are in good general repair and property maintenance is of a high standard. The SSTL Student when required, will assist in stockading for medical supplies and equipment as well as ensures all stations are kept in an optimum safe and operational condition at all times in accordance with policies and procedures as stated by EMC and EHS.As an employee of EMC, we are accountable to our patients and co-workers by participating in and supporting all safety related initiatives, as well as acting in a manner that fosters a culture that focuses on patient safety and a safe workplace.On scheduled, rotational basis the SSTL Student’s may be required to work shift work inclusive of weekends and holidays providing mobile support to designated operational regions, as required. Duties and Responsibilities:The position entails, but is not limited to the following:Operates all system vehicles in accordance with all policies of EMC and EHS.Maintains and ensures proper documentation for all EHS supply chain, materials management and facility inspection aspects of the position as directed by the Manager, Logistics, Facilities & Materials Management.Materials Management; assists in ensuring all paramedic supply stations including designated hospitals are kept stocked as per established “min/max” inventory supply levels. Assist in Inspections of Paramedic Base Station’s for noted deficiencies and completes general light facility repairs, maintenance and property grooming as directed.Complies with all existing EMC System Support Safe Work Practices (SWP’s) as well as all other Company Policies/Procedures and or Process’s.Completes required Paramedic Base Station Facilities general repairs which includes but not limited to; station cleaning, painting, property maintenance, lighting repairs and general maintenance requirements.Ensures the Logistics system vehicles are inspected, operator maintained, stocked/equipped and in a ready state in accordance with EMC System Support Policy/Procedures and or Process’s at all times.Conducts Logistic vehicle cleaning required to the vehicle interior or exterior in accordance with proper decontamination policies if and when required.Conducts and assists on-going cleanliness of the Logistic Central or Eastern Stock Depot during scheduled shifts.Practices good hygiene and demonstrates socially accepted skills and graces when interacting with vendors, colleagues, paramedics and any member of the general public.Performs other such similar, comparable or related duties as may be required or assigned.Takes instruction and direction operationally from the Manager, Logistics, Facilities & Materials Management or designate.May be required to periodically back-fill the Fleet System Support Technician (SST), if and when required.QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Education/Experience: Minimum Grade 12Ability to complete and retain a class 5 Nova Scotia Drivers’ License in good standing with a clean Drivers Abstract.Possesses WHIMIS, First Aid, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification, or a willingness to obtain and maintain.Knowledge & Skills: Effective oral and written communication skills.Microsoft Office – word, excel and outlook.Displays good decision-making skills and takes initiative.Familiarity with small engine machines such as a push lawnmower, weedwhacker and pressure washer would be an asset (will be trained). Physical Requirements: • Potential exposures to contaminated items. Irregular work schedules, work environment possibly shift work and overtime as needed. Fleet/Logistics Centers can be cluttered, greasy, and dirty at times.• Operation of oversize vehicles – pick-up truck, panel/cube van would be an asset.• Adverse weather conditions.• Standing for long periods of time, periodic long stretches of sitting / driving.• Lifting of minimum 13.5-22.5kg (30-50lbs).
