Support Worker role




  • To provide a caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which children/young people can feel secure and free from harm.

  • Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard.

  • Helping young people gain self-control by challenging unacceptable behavior and rewarding acceptable. 

  • Ensuring that each young person’s care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs.

  • Attending to practical matters in relation to childcare (cooking, cleaning, general maintenance around the home and garden)

  • To assist in formulating assessments of needs for each young person.




  • To assist the Registered Care Manager in the management of the home in all aspects appropriate to the Statement of Purpose for the home.

  • To provide a caring and supportive environment for young people which respects and affirms their racial, cultural and religious identity and lifestyle.

  • To assist in returning them to their families or enable them to move on to alternative careers or independence at the appropriate stage in their lives.

  • Providing advice, assistance and support on 1:1 basis to enable young people to address past and present difficulties.

  • Being ambitious for young people, helping them achieve their goals and optimize their potential.

  • Keeping accurate records and providing written reports on young people for planning meetings, reviews or any other meetings as directed by a manager

  • Providing emotional support at difficult times.

  • Acting as an advocate at meetings where the young person is the subject of discussion

  • Encouraging the young person to develop links with the community, attend off-site activities, and expand their personal social network.





Support Worker Duties & Responsibilities. 






  • To maintain a high standard of childcare standards.

  • Provide a caring and supportive environment in which young people will feel safe.

  • Act as a positive role model.

  • Exercise appropriate control of young people by being aware of their presenting needs.

  • The maintenance of satisfactory written records and reports on the individual young person’s behaviour and attitude which can be used in casework conferences and/or Court Proceedings.

  • Undertake and promote domestic duties in the home and ensure high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the home and gardens.

  • To ensure that statutory regulations and other policies and procedures of the company are implemented.

  • Have good practice at the cornerstone of work undertaken whilst in the employment of the company.

  • Ensure the rights and needs of the young people are met as fully as possible whether emotional, spiritual, physical, intellectual, cultural or social.

  • Promote and maintain positive anti-discrimination practices.

  • Ensure that all incidents are adequately reported to the management team and any member of staff taking over a shift.

  •  Attend staff meetings and supervision sessions.

  • Undertake other duties at a higher responsibility level matching relevant experience and ability as directed by the line manager.

  • Attend the mandatory training sessions.





Support Worker Hours




  • This post requires the holder to do varying shifts, which include some sleep overs, and you will be required to work weekends on a rota basis. 





Support Worker Criteria.



You must have some previous experience working with challenging behaviour, ideally with young people.
