Student Support Officer - Asylum Seekers

Think FE are working closely with a highly reputable FE College based in Worcestershire, West Midlands. We are looking for professional and supportive Student Support Officer for Asylum Seekers.

Position: Temporary, Part-time
Salary: £23,194 (pro-rata £15,204)
Hours: 22.2 hours / week (3 days / week)
End date: Until at least January 2025 (may be extended)
Location: Worcestershire

About

You will be the go-to person for asylum seeker children in the college responsible for counselling, supporting and guiding the them through the journey.

Key Responsibilities

You will be the named support worker, contributing to and coordinating specialist support as needed.
Collate information for PEP and LAC review meetings.
Represent the College at internal and external meetings, including PEP and LAC reviews.
Maintain and record accurate information using ProMonitor, UnitE, and follow safeguarding procedures.
Conduct thorough risk assessments and checks for learners as required.
Act as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns and manage them effectively.
Liaise with curriculum teams to monitor attendance, progress, and targets.
Maintain effective communication with staff and students to support learners and reduce barriers to learning and achievement.
Communicate with external agencies (e.g., Virtual Schools, Children’s Social Care) to provide optimal learner support.
Coordinate transition activities for new applicants with external agencies.
Measure and evaluate the impact of support.
Produce reports on learner engagement, retention, and progression for the Head of Student Support.
What are we looking for?
NVQ Level 3 in counselling, guidance, teaching, youth work or health profession or similar.
Experience working with 16-18 year olds.
Good knowledge of safeguarding.
Pass grade for GCSE Maths and English (C / 4 or above)
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
