The Opportunity
Hinkley Point C is the Nuclear New Build under construction in the South West. It is the largest construction project in the UK and Europe and aims to provide 6 million homes with low-carbon energy in order to help Britain meet it's net zero targets.
Operating Environment
The Engineer is the technical lead reviewing and accepting the changes to the design raised by the site contractor, responsible for managing interfaces between the construction contractors and the designers. Being part of NNB's Engineering Directorate and working on a day-to-day basis on site with the Construction Team, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic working environment.
Principal Accountabilities
Engineer is who can provide technical expertise to ensure the review, acceptance and technical delivery of design changes during construction of the building will thrive in this role. The successful role holder will have a working knowledge of steel design codes such as Eurocode 3 . We will value your existing skills and experience while providing the opportunity to work closely with the JDO Design Team and Construction team to maintain the technical quality of responses (content / consistency / exhaustiveness / accuracy) and construction safety.
The principal accountabilities for the R&A Engineer are:
• The approval of design changes proposed by the contractor or designer through Request for Information, field Change Request or Non-Conformance Report.
• Support the JDO in the handover of Design Packages released for construction and initiated the delegated responsibilities through this process.
• Ensure that processes comply with project quality procedures.
• Management of CDM aspects relating to the design changes during the construction period, including discharging the role of principle designer.
• Responsible for the nuclear safety acceptance of the design by carrying out surveillance on the design changes during construction.
• Safety case/golden thread: in the review and acceptance process, ensure the high-level safety case and the design have a clear golden thread to support operations.
Knowledge & Skills
Essential
• Design process and design activities (preferably related to Nuclear Industry).
• Working knowledge of Steel design codes.
• Design with hazard & accidental safety cases.
• Working within UK CDM regulations and in a highly regulated industry.
• Delivery-oriented and ability to set action plans and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Proactive, pragmatic and adopting a practical approach to resolve issues.
Desirable
• Previous experience as design engineer.
• Working knowledge of construction change procedures.
• Experience in the use of ETC-C and nuclear Industry.
• Working in large-scale, multi-cultural industrial project, safety case architecture.
• Understanding and application of the Intelligent Customer Role.
• Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
• Familiar with JDO processes and ways of working.
• Understanding of Contract Management
• Commercial awareness with an understanding of the impact of change.
• Familiarity with safety case process and design substantiation
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
• Degree or Master in Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
• 4/5 Years Experience ideally in structural design or construction.
• Knowledge about Eurocode, specially EC3.
• Structural Drawings and Models Handling.
• Initiative and independence.
• Good Communication Skills.
Desirable
• EC8 knowledge.
• Stakeholder management experience.
• Package management experience.
• PWR technology design, safety case or operation.
• SCI (Steel Construction Institute) Greenbook knowledge.
