Circusful, formerly Belfast Community Circus School was founded in 1985 and is Ireland’s premier circus arts organisation. Every week we run classes for around 400 children, young people and adults in our headquarters in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter which is the first and only fully equipped, purpose-built circus arts centre on the island. We also run a ground-breaking outreach programme, put on shows and events and produce Festival of Fools. We also manage Premiere Circus, a performance agency who provide the best in street theatre, walkabout and performance for a huge range of events.The role has three main parts:Supporting delivery of circus classes for children, young people and adults.Helping produce circus activities/classes/events/festivals.Working with others to manage our venue and wider facilities.This is a practical job which includes working directly with participants in a class environment under the guidance of our Lead Trainers. To thrive in this role, you will need to have a passion for circus and an interest in developing this into best teaching practice and learning lots about event and venue management. Your working pattern may change week to week depending on your skills, areas of development and areas of interest. As time goes on, you’ll have the opportunity to work across our whole programme including festivals and events, project management, teaching and venue management. If you are applying for this role, you must be able to commit to working some evenings and weekends..ResponsibilitiesSupporting delivery of circus classes for children, young people and adults.Involvement in the planning process including how the session will be delivered, what will happen when and how it will be evaluated and why.Observing, assisting with and/or leading elements of classes/workshops for people of all ages as agreed with the Lead Trainer before the class/workshop begins.Identifying with the Lead Trainer/Head of Programme what you are hoping to gain from each section of the class/workshop.Familiarising yourself with the specific needs of each group you are working with.Completing the registration information for each class and inputting evaluation details into the central system.Helping to set up the equipment, lead elements of the session and pack away/clean/tidy after the class.Support the trainer team with managing the behaviours during the class time.Completing your learning journal after each class.Helping produce circus activities/classes/events/festivals.Working with the CEO, Trainee Producer and other key roles to support the planning, programming, delivery and evaluation of Festival of Fools including Circusful Corner.Supporting others to prepare for and plan youth circus workshops, masterclasses, events, shows and performances.Support the design of a program for social Wednesdays covering conversations around best practice and innovation in circus teaching and performance.Supporting the planning and delivery of our marketing and communications work.Working with other team members to plan rotas, contact trainers to check availability.Preparing contracts and ensuring the related administration is kept up to date.Reading and collating evaluation reports from classes and workshops. Taking time to share lessons learned, insights and achievements with other team members.Working to develop and circulate risk assessments.Taking minutes at meetings as required.Working with others to manage our venue and wider facilities.Assisting with relevant building and venue management jobs.Assisting with preparing the space for events, showcases and/or meetings and welcoming/supporting visitors as needed.Dealing with tradespeople/partner organisations as needed.Act as a key holder (after a period of induction).Contributing to team meetings and taking minutes as required.Develop strong partnerships with other local arts organisations and artists.Participate fully in external meetings, gatherings, away days and events.Identify and complete relevant training opportunities.Any other duties as requested.Skills and QualificationsA range of circus skills that you can train/demonstrate independently.A genuine interest in teaching circus arts to people of all ages, capabilities and backgrounds.An ability to remain calm and respond to unexpected situations professionally at all times.An understanding of safeguarding and how that is applied in a learning environment.Some knowledge of risks involved in teaching circus and know how to mitigate them.An interest in wider performing arts and education.An interest in building relationships with other people of all ages, capabilities and backgrounds.Organised and enjoy planning, solving problems and meeting deadlines.Be keen to learn about how to work with financial information and get a sense of satisfaction out of delivering good administration and recordkeeping.Be available to work on evenings and weekends to help deliver festivals, events and shows.Experience of teaching/coaching/supporting others to learn new skills.Experience of using Microsoft Office and other computer software.Experience of creating digital content and using a variety of social media platforms.Experience of working as part of a team on a project or in an organisation.Experience of creating and producing shows in a voluntary capacity or as part of your studies.Experience of shadowing or leading circus/other arts workshops or classes.Experience of engaging with the arts and arts organisations, for example, through volunteering or participating in classes/events.Experience of using databases.Further InformationThe Employer is: CIRCUSFUL Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position.
