At MPB, every employee has the opportunity to make an impact and grow.The OpportunityAs a Staff Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our engineering organisation -leveraging your extensive experience across multiple technologies, solutions, and business domains to design and deliver robust software solutions.You will collaborate with our six delivery squads to support complicated, cross functional work, provide technical leadership, and drive the adoption of best practices to ensure the success of our projects.By providing strong leadership, fostering a culture of excellence, and leveraging the latest technologies and best practices, the Staff Engineer ensures that our software products remain competitive, scalable, and aligned with the company's overall mission and values.This role reports directly into the VP Engineering, and is a hybrid role (2 days in the office, 3 days working from home).ResponsibilitiesDesign and build scalable, distributed systems that meet the needs of our diverse business domainsLead technical discussions and provide guidance on architectural decisions, partnering with the Principal Architect -ensuring alignment with business goals and scalability requirementsDrive the implementation of best practices in software engineering, including but not limited to, code reviews, testing strategies, and deployment automation utilising the technologies and tooling appropriate for the task in handBe a key stakeholder in the technical strategy and planning for the platform, ensuring it stays aligned with the MPB visionMentor and coach junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and expertise to foster a culture of continuous learning and growth within the teamStay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, and advocate for their adoption within the organisation to drive innovation and efficiencyCollaborate closely with product management and other stakeholders to understand requirements, advocate for prioritisation of features, and deliver high-quality software solutions on time and within budgetProvide strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to tailor and digest deeply technical content to various audiences in differing forumsEvaluate new tools, frameworks, and technologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our software development processesPresent informed and considered suggestions to the Technology Leadership team regarding the adoption of new technologies, taking into account technical feasibility and business impactAble to consider and clearly articulate the relative benefits of buy vs build, helping the business make the right investmentsWho we are looking for...We are searching for a true analytical thinker, with a proven ability in problem determination, root cause analysis & general problem solving. The scope of this role means that we need somebody who has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, executive leadership and stakeholders in the wider business.If you have a passion for technology and innovation, with a demonstrated commitment to staying abreast of industry trends and best practices and a committment to lifelong learning and professional developement - we would love to hear from you.Key Technical RequirementsExtensiveexperience in software engineering, with a proven track record of successfully delivering large complex projects across multiple technologies and business domainsDemonstrable expertise in designing and building scalable, distributed systems using a variety of programming languages and frameworksStrong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system integration principles across different technology stacksExperience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and microservices architecture.Proven ability to mentor and develop talent, foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, and resolve conflicts in a constructive manner.Strategic thinker with the ability to align software development initiatives with the company's overall goals and objectives.Ability to make informed decisions and prioritise initiatives based on technical feasibility and business impact.Proactive approach to identifying opportunities for process improvement, optimization, and innovation within the software engineering function.Proven ability to build strong relationships with software engineers at all levels.
