Our website serves 7,500 requests per second, backed by more than 100 services hosted on GCP to which we deploy 1500 times a month. About the Search teamAt loveholidays, the Search team is responsible for the website and app experience for customers planning, discovering and booking holidays. We are true product engineers, and work closely with product managers, designers, data analysts, and others from across the business to take solutions for our users from ideation to production. Everyone in the team contributes to the future of our search experience.What you’ll be working on:
Expanding on our cutting edge Preact application to provide meaningful features to millions of users. Building server driven UIs that can be changed without engineering involvement to enable different parts of the business to optimise the platform.
Work across our stack - from optimising the ultra-fast performance of our app, to deploying GraphQL changes, to using BigQuery to analyse performance data such as Web Vitals, to rolling out new services to serve our customers like hotel recommendations. The team primarily uses Preact, GraphQL, TypeScript and Node. However we employ many different languages across our teams and encourage engineers to work across the entire stack and use the right tool for the job - from our Kubernetes infrastructure to our Rust edge platform. As a Staff Engineer, you’ll be a champion for technical quality and architecture within the team, and will lead the team and department by example when solving complex technical and customer challenges. What we’re looking for You are an experienced and motivated engineer who is excited about building products in cross functional teams to deliver a best-in-class modern web experience to consumers. You enjoy collaborating across teams to achieve shared goals, sharing knowledge with others. You consistently lead by example, and inspire and mentor up-and-coming engineers. You have proven experience in building scalable and high-performance applications, employing cutting edge algorithms, software design and technologies to do so. You want to have an even deeper understanding of web applications and the surrounding ecosystem. Applying a product mindset, you solve for end users first, with technology being a means to an end. You have a constant interest in learning more about the latest trends in the product engineering space, and want to grow further. We strive to support engineers in their growth and will give you the platform to do it. You own applications end to end, from specification to coding, to deploying, running and monitoring in production.
