Job Description
Nearly ONE million people play badminton every month…it’s the fourth most participated sport in the country.Would you like to be fundamental in creating a connection between these players and Badminton England that helps us deliver our strategic goals of getting more people playing, supporting the badminton community and winning more medals? Yes, then read on!Role Summary:As the Sport Director, you will be influencing the direction of the sport of Badminton at the Senior Leadership level and driving the successful implementation of our strategy through a team to position Badminton England as the most inclusive and accessible sport in England. You will be responsible for driving our culture and living our values through your work with staff who are based both remotely and at the National Badminton Centre. These staff make up the teams of competitions, development, major events, membership, places and pathway. In doing so, you will nurture, support and develop this fantastic team of staff to:- Drive and influence the development of Badminton in England- Work with the Badminton Community to transform, develop and grow the sport- Deliver the Badminton England (BE) Strategy implementation plan- Develop new and existing partnerships with the badminton community and external stakeholders- Drive participation with a specific focus on the delivery of EDI and safeguarding strategies through effective partnership working- Develop new partnerships to deliver the sport- Drive sport operations through developing new and existing opportunities, funding streams, products and partnerships to achieve the BE StrategyResponsibilities:- Deliver the BE Implementation Plan by overseeing and supporting team members in the strategic planning and delivery of:o Developmento Pathwayso Placeso Membershipo Competitionso Major Events- Work with the Heads of each team to position Badminton England as a leading force in driving participation and being the most inclusive sport through major events, competition, development, pathways, places and membership- Strategically manage BE’s approach and work with existing and potential new partners in the areas of competition, development, major events, pathways, places and membership, with specific reference to embedding equality, diversity inclusion and safeguarding in all aspects of the teams work- Ensure efficient and effective experiences and pathways are in place and measured for players, members, volunteers, educators, coaches, officials, committees, tournament staff to drive participation and position Badminton England as the most inclusive sport- Establish, develop and maintain effective systems to track and record increases in participation, producing reports for both internal and external partners evidencing the impact of, and with specific reference to equality, diversion and inclusion- Manage the department’s budget and budget forecastingIdentify potential opportunities for external funding and work closely with your team and the Senior Leadership Team to capitalise on these opportunities.Who we are looking for?- Proven track record of developing and growing a sport from grassroots level through the pathway, to encourage a life long passion for the sport.- Knowledge and experience of delivering events and competitions in sport- Proven track record of delivering a positive culture in the workplace- Values driven person committed to living the BE values of: doing today brilliantly, play for each other, include intentionally, do what matters- Demonstrated ability to increase participation in sport- Track record in strategic planning, with experience in effective delivery in the areas of development, competitions, major events, pathways, membership and places (not all essential but desirable)- Track record in empowering and supporting teams to deliver (remote workers and staff based in offices)- Proven experience in influencing and embedding EDI and safeguarding principles at a strategic level- Proven experience in stakeholder management and negotiation, specifically with national agencies, Senior Leadership Teams, Boards, committees and volunteers- Proven experience in funding, budgeting, and commercial acumen- Proven experience in securing grants at various levels, including locally, regionally, and nationally- Understanding of BE structures and programmes- Knowledge and understanding of the English sporting landscape- Strong planning and organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise, delegate and empower- Skilled in strategy creation, review and development- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including knowledge of Microsoft office and in particular, spreadsheets word processing, email- Capacity for innovative thinking and introducing new approaches to deliver badminton’s strategic aims- Ambitious and driven to continually develop new skills and techniques in themselves and others- Meticulous attention to detailKey Information:We're all about output so we have Hybrid working and flexible hours in place - it's a full-time role (35.58 hours per week), but we understand that people have lives outside of BE - please talk to us about what you need. We can't promise anything, but we're open to a discussion about how we can support you.
