Specialist Speech and Language Therapist -Stroke Rehab- Band 6

Are you a Speech and Language Therapist experienced in Stroke Rehabilitation with a passion for delivering the highest quality of specialist intervention to work in this centre of excellence? The Specialist Stroke Rehabilitation Unit offers residents of Gloucestershire a dedicated Therapy Led service. The post-may include 11.25 hours with the countywide Community Neurology Service. Adopting national best practice this unit ensures that people suffering from a stroke will benefit from the clinical pathway, maximising the health outcomes of those people who are likely to improve with in-patient specialist rehabilitation. There will be close collaborative working with colleagues in the Acute Stroke setting and community teams. We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician to work in this friendly and collaborative multi-disciplinary team who shares a philosophy of empowering patients to be more independent and active in their recovery. You will be committed to developing your own expertise but also support other colleagues to continually develop and grow their own skills through clinical, managerial and peer supervisionalongside appraisal. We can offer training and development opportunities and well as encourage you to take on service development projects. Audit is an integral element of the service and we encourage the participation in research. Our Speech and Language Therapists are included in the wider Speech and Language service within the Trust.Main duties of the job
To provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) assessment, diagnosis and treatment to Stroke patients with communication and swallowing disorders in the community stroke unit. To work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team contributing to the holistic management and rehabilitation of the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) caseload. To support the Therapy Lead in service development, evaluation and quality initiatives in line with local and national drivers. To support the Therapy Lead in adhering to national and local standards set out for Stroke and rehabilitation.

Recognised Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists degree level qualification Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Member of the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Post Graduate Dysphagia Training Experience in managing patients with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties post stroke Ability to identify own professional development needs Skill in selection of appropriate strategies for prioritisation and management of a complex caseload independently Specialist skills in differential diagnosis and targeting of clinical interventions Ability to demonstrate highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of clients Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including skilled and professional recognition of communication barriers/facilitation Negotiation skills for management of conflict across a range of situations Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook Able to attend and participate in all mandatory and statutory training events Ability to work flexibly across the Trust
