Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is inviting applications from highly skilled and motivated optometrists to join our growing team. The role includes undertaking a range of specialist extended optometry services which may include Glaucoma, Cataract, Medical retina, Eye Casualty or Paediatric Ophthalmology. This will be dependent on the needs of service and the skillset of the successful applicant. The role may also include advanced contact lens fitting, specialist and paediatric refraction and low vision assessments.Main duties of the job
To work closely with the line manager in order to deliver a comprehensive range of core optometric services to the highest standards of quality and care. Participate in the delivery of certain highly complex specialist optometric services that meet the changing needs of the Directorate and other outside agencies. To undertake administrative duties. To undertake clinical audit. he post holder is expected to work without direct supervision. This involves taking action based on the post holder's own interpretation of NHS, Trust, College of Optometrists and General Optical Council policies and guidelines.

BSc Honours degree in Optometry Current registration with the General Optical Council as an Optometrist Relevant masters (or higher) level postgraduate qualification(s) relevant to sub-specialist practice

Previous hospital eye service experience Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills ability to communicate complex, sensitive and potentially conflicting information to patients and other stakeholders in an appropriate manner independent of their level of understanding Ability to empathise regarding loss of sight and prognoses including blindness and threats to general health from systemic disease with ocular/visual manifestations Highly developed and proven specialist knowledge, at Masters level or above, across multiple areas of specialist clinical practice.
