Specialist Clinical Pharmacist, Band 7

We are looking for enthusiastic patient-orientated clinical pharmacists to join our supportive clinical pharmacy team at Gloucestershire Hospitals. Relocation expenses, in accordance with trust policy, are available for this position The Specialist Clinical Pharmacist role involves acting as a designated directorate link pharmacist, evolving into a specialist clinical pharmacist for that speciality. The specialities available are renal, respiratory, endocrine, stroke & care of the elderly and surgery. This builds upon experience and skills obtained from undertaking a Clinical Diploma. The role will provide a clinical pharmacy service to the designated speciality, attending ward rounds, multi-disciplinary team meetings, directorate and other associated meetings. Pharmacists part way through their clinical diploma are encouraged to apply, but would join as a rotational band 7 clinical pharmacist, progressing to link pharmacist for a designated speciality upon completion of the diploma. There is opportunity to undertake the non-medical prescribing qualification. Opportunities are also available to regularly utilise prescribing within the speciality, including on ward rounds and participation in clinics.
Pharmacists will provide operational and clinical support to the pharmacy department. You will participate in weekend and on-call pharmacy services (at either Gloucestershire Royal or Cheltenham General site depending on service need).Main duties of the job
Act as a designated medical or surgical directorate link clinical pharmacist, providing a clinical pharmacy service to one or more specific clinical areas in order to promote safe, rational, effective and economic use of medicines. To act as deputy to the Clinical Pharmacist Leads for Medicine/Surgery. Responsible for attending relevant directorate level meetings as pharmacy representative, including the provision of financial or drug use reports as required. Provide expert pharmaceutical advice to a clinical area(s) and provide clinical pharmacy cover to other areas as required. Participation in the weekend pharmacy service rota as we move towards 7-day working. Undertake teaching and clinical supervision of pharmacists, foundation pharmacists, Medicines Optimisation Technicians and undergraduate pharmacy students. Undertake audits and service improvement projects within clinical pharmacy. Impact upon pay and non-pay budgets:the post-holder is expected to exert a downward influence upon drug expenditure within the trust and demonstrate actual cost savings on individual wards by improving the efficiency of the prescribing and dispensing process. Some day-to-day supervision of band 6 Pharmacists covering wards (1-2 staff) and Medicines Optimisation technicians (1-2 staff).
