This role will be responsible for operationalizing and scaling a portfolio of initiatives that seek to engage communities around volunteer service and civic engagement. These initiatives include days of service, community leadership workshops, donation drives and more.The keystone of the portfolio is the Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service. Held each January, Global Citizen’s King Day of Service is the oldest and largest King Day of Service initiative in the country. TheSpecial Projects Directorwill be responsible for managing the recruitment, engagement, and support of King Day organizing; creating systems to operationalize, scale and sustain the initiative. In addition to King Day, theSpecial Projects Directorwill be the Global Citizen’s point person for a number of other ongoing community engagement initiatives and making sure the many unique resources developed by the Global Citizen are accessible to and distributed to partners.The successful candidate will be a mission-driven, solution-oriented go-getter. The organization is committed to building a community that is inclusive and equitable.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Event Planning:Manage Global Citizen’s annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service.Work with a variety of external partners and Global Citizen staff to collaboratively design all aspects of the King Day Signature Site eventRecruit, register and support partners as they plan their eventsPlan one event each to kick-off and closeout the Day of ServiceProvide event design and management for other Global Citizen events (as determined).Project Management:Collaborate with staff to manage the Global Citizen volunteer portal.Work with partners to expand the enrollment in this service to more organizers and volunteers each yearGather feedback for improving the portalManage Neighbors in Action Community Leadership Workshops and portal onboardingSchedule and deliver presentations for engaging community members in partnership with Global CitizenEstablish a system for regular delivery of workshops or opportunities for recruitmentIdentify opportunities to continue to expand the use of the portal and workshopsHandle logistics of special projects and pilot initiatives that arise over the course of the year (i.e. school supplies drive, sponsor engagement events, etc.)Administrative Duties:Create and manage a process for designing and recruiting service projects around annually identified focus areasDevelop and maintain relationships with a cadre of community partners (nonprofits, city agencies, communities of faith, student groups, etc.)Qualifications:Demonstrated experience in logistics and event planningTrack record of managing complex projects with multiple partnersExcellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to sustain and strengthen a variety of stakeholder relationships including funders, institutional partners, and community and grassroots volunteersDemonstrated experience designing and implementing events with Philadelphia communitiesExcellent organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail and timelinesAdditional Desired Qualifications:Minimum 4-5 years relevant work experienceB.A. or B.S. preferred but not requiredFamiliar with Philadelphia neighborhoods, including neighborhoods for whom English is not the primary languageAbility to speak fluently in more than one language a plusFamiliar with Philadelphia community/nonprofit organizations, familiarity with the King Day of Service network a plusSpecial Conditions:This job requires occasional physical labor; applicant should be able to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.Occasional travel within the Philadelphia area is required.Occasional evening and weekend hours are required (especially in January).The position is currently fully remote outside of on-site requirements for event management and coordination.About Global Citizen:Global Citizen is a non-profit organization founded in 1995 to promote, lead and advance social justice efforts through ongoing civic engagement among diverse groups.
