Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant

Location: Batley, West Yorkshire

Contract Type: Monday-Friday (Full-Time - 8:30am-3:30pm) -Term Time Only

Salary: �76-�85 a day

Veritas Education are searching for SEN Teaching Assistants to support primary and secondary aged children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and medical needs in a specialist school in Batley. The learners attending the school have a variety of different needs, including Autism, Down Syndrome, Communication Needs, PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties) and medical/mobility needs too.

Across the setting, the school provides a variety of different ability classes for all children, coping and managing their needs to help them access their education to the best of their ability. The school has fantastic facilities to meet the needs of all children, along with a staffing team who are dedicated, passionate and caring when it comes to providing the best life and access to education for the learners attending the school.

Role:

  • Throughout this role as a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting children in lessons, lunch area and on the playground.
  • Be comfortable and confident supporting children with SEN and medical needs.
  • Support the children with their work, activities and motivate the children to complete their tasks to the best of their ability.
  • Communicate with the children by using PECS, sign language and Makaton.
  • You will help support the learning throughout the day and support the care of the needs of the children, whether that is through supporting nursing/physio-based staff in medical support, or with personal changing.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support, adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.
  • Follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to meet the students' needs and ensure progress.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech therapists and physio therapists to create a comprehensive support network.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with students with Special Educational Needs in a school environment is essential. Experience working with adults in a care/residential setting is also valued.
  • Level 2 Team Teach Positive Behaviour Management training is essential, this training can be offered by Veritas.
  • Safeguarding training is essential, this training can be offered by Veritas.
  • Moving and Handling training is desirable.
  • Knowledge of specific SEN interventions is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the unique needs of each child.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute positively to the school community.
  • Candidates must hold or be willing to apply for an enhanced DBS upon registration.
  • Have proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
