Job Purpose: To oversee the development, operation, support, and management of Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision and lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across Silverways School, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and promoting inclusive practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Development of SEN Policy and Provision:
* Develop and maintain a strategic overview of SEN provision and safeguarding measures across the school, aligning objectives with the School Improvement Plan (SIP).
* Stay informed about national and local initiatives impacting SEN policy, safeguarding, and child protection practices.
* Evaluate the effective use of funding for SEN provision and safeguarding initiatives, proposing adjustments as necessary.
Operation of SEN Policy and Coordination of Provision:
* Maintain an accurate SEND register and provision map, coordinating provision effectively.
* Provide guidance to colleagues on teaching pupils with SEN and advise on the graduated approach to SEN support.
* Advise on budget allocation and resource deployment to meet pupils' needs effectively.
* Collaborate with external agencies, including the Local Authority, to coordinate SEN provision and safeguarding measures.
* Work closely with the clinical team to integrate therapeutic interventions within the SEN framework.
Support for Pupils with SEN:
* Identify pupils' SEN, coordinate provision, and monitor its effectiveness.
* Facilitate communication with parents/carers, ensuring their involvement in the EHCP review process.
* Support smooth transitions for pupils transferring to other schools and promote their inclusion within the school community.
Management of SEND:
* Work with the headteacher, SLT, and governors to ensure compliance with the Equality Act 2010 and relevant legislation.
* Contribute to the SIP and whole-school policy development related to SEN, safeguarding, and child protection.
* Contribute to whole-school evaluation related to the effectiveness of SEN, safeguarding, and child protection.
* Identify and address staff training needs related to SEN, safeguarding, and child protection.
* Embed an inclusive ethos and culture within the school community.
Safeguarding and Child Protection:
* Take lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school, including online safety.
* Manage referrals of suspected abuse, neglect, and radicalisation concerns to relevant agencies.
* Liaise with safeguarding partners, local authorities, and the police as necessary.
* Ensure accurate and confidential record-keeping of safeguarding concerns and referrals.
* Raise awareness among staff and parents/carers about safeguarding policies and procedures.
* Work closely with the clinical team to ensure comprehensive safeguarding support.
Training and Development:
* Undergo regular training to meet the expectations outlined in relevant legislation and guidance.
* Provide safeguarding and child protection training for staff, including online safety.
* Support staff during the referrals process and promote understanding of the link between safeguarding, welfare, and educational outcomes.
* Ensure all staff are trained in recognizing and reporting safeguarding concerns, keeping up-to-date with the latest best practices and legislation.
