Main responsibilities of the role:
Providing representation at police stations.
Represent clients in criminal proceedings, including court appearances, trials, and hearings.
Liaising with clients, counsel, defendants and other parties.
Collating and reviewing documentation and evidence.
Obtaining medical/accountancy evidence when required and have the ability to interpret that evidence and advice accordingly.
Litigating cases.
Conducting advocacy.
Negotiating with prosecutors on behalf of clients.
Managing a caseload efficiently.
Essential key skills:
Full qualification as police station representative.
Experience of criminal law within the last five years.
Knowledge of the Legal Aid system.
Advocacy and litigation skills.
Clean and valid practicing certificate at the time of applying.
Excellent client care skills with the ability to represent vulnerable clients.
Preferredkey skills:
Higher rights of advocacy qualification.
Additional certificates and qualifications such as the Advocates Gateway.
Specialist expertise in one or more areas of criminal law, particularly motoring offences and financial crime, white collar, financial and business crime.
Ability to mentor trainees.
Experience with private clients and an ability to generate more private client cases.
