Role: Engineering manager / engineering team leader in embedded or electronics
Location: Newport (onsite role)
Salary: £65,000 approx

Purpose of Job:
The Engineering Manager will lead the Engineering Department.
In this role you will be managing a team of initially 6 engineers within hardware and software, and you will ideally be able to contribute in the SW domain also.
This position will report to the Group Products Director. Since the Engineering team is small the management aspect will not by itself be full-time, therefore this person will be a ‘player manager’ who also plays an active role in the day-to-day engineering tasks of the team.
Knowledge, Experience and Relevant Qualifications for this Job:
Self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, responsible team-player.
Ability to effectively delegate without micro-management
Comfortable working with personnel at all levels to explain product solutions: Customers, Managers, Executives, Sales, Service & Support Teams
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Demonstrating strong ownership to ensure projects are properly finished and documented
Ability to remain calm and make rational, evidence-based decisions under pressure
Ability to lead, motivate and push projects through to completion
Detailed knowledge of current product range
Principal Accountabilities:
Leading the Engineering team including responsibility for managing the: Hardware; Electronics; Software; Firmware
Working with the Engineering team, the head of Product Management and the Group Products Director to prioritize the team’s tasks
Producing a weekly report for the Group Products Director
Developing product features and new products
Ensuring that the team follows all the relevant quality processes as defined by the company quality manual
Ensuring good communication between the team and the rest of the business, in particular Production and Product Management
Responsibility for ensuring that all products meet relevant international standards for Safety, Electromagnetic Compatibility, hazardous materials and any other legal requirements
Responsibility for monitoring costs incurred each month and reporting these to the Group Products Director
Responsibility for managing team members’ holiday, sickness and any HR issues (with assistance from the Group Products Director where required)
Responsibility for conducting annual appraisals for the team
