Simply Commerce are partnered with one of the UK's most well renowned businesses who for the last couple of years have invested heavily in to digital, including migrating their tech to microservices and cloud architecture.
They are now looking for a hands on Engineering Managers to join their newly created platform squad, this will involve building and hiring a site reliability engineering (SRE) team. The purpose of this team to make life for the development teams in other parts of the business easier by providing a set of low friction, fully managed cloud capabilities. This team will also be responsible for the stability, security, availability and performance of these cloud capabilities built by other teams in the platform squad.
This role is ideal for someone who is at Lead level, looking to step up in to a management role, but still wants to be hands on.
Responsibilities:
This role is 60% hands on, 40% management.
Lead, grow and hire a team of engineers and SRE's ensuring the platform and applications running on it are stable and secure.
Create and Lead strategy for planned outages and DR exercises.
Implement monitoring and self-healing capabilities for systems to minimise downtime.
Develop and drive execution on 6 months and 1-year road maps.
Establish a metrics-based organisation, develop critical operational metrics and push for continuous improvement.
Remove manual implementation from workflows and look to automate as much as possible.
Experience / Skills:
8 + years hands on software engineering, ideally in enterprise environments.
A good level of commercial expertise in core Java and Spring Boot.
3+ years experience building software products in Javascript / Typescript.
4+ years experience in an SRE / DevOps role
Strong experience with AWS.
Experience setting and managing Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
Salary up to £75,000
