A major online organisation based in Westminster are looking to hire a Software Engineering Manager which is a new position within the business and has arisen due to a departure re-org, reporting into the Senior Engineering Manager. The role would be well aligned to an experienced Lead or Principal Java Engineer who has likely been leading engineering squads within a hybrid type role, along with the technical direction and architectural processes that is perhaps looking for a next step into a more senior/management role. Initially, as Software Engineering Manager you would manage 3 multi-disciplined squads and lead the delivery of new scalable customer and data high performance software products and digital platforms.
You'll use your engineering knowledge and leadership capabilities to manage the multi-skilled engineering squad driving value, performance and efficiency. You'll have end-to-end ownership of the delivery of products owning the entire stack and communicating any technical concerns upwards to senior product management.
As a Software Engineering Manager you will be well versed with Java and possess a deep knowledge of engineering and architectural principles along with broad experience covering software design, microservices, cloud, CI/CD, Infrastructure as code and Agile delivery. You'll have a clear passion for coaching teams, building a good culture and also capable of rolling up your sleeves and advising/directing accordingly. You will have strong experience leading engineering professionals in a tech driven company and within a DevOps environment.
Across the business you will collaborate closely with Product Management and C-level stakeholders and take full responsibility for motivating, retaining and ultimately recruiting talent into your squads. A background delivering high performance services using modern Java (11+) and a breadth of knowledge across tools/frameworks/tech such as Spring Boot, Hibernate, Kubernetes, Cloud (AWS / Azure / GCP) would be beneficial.
