Job Description
Our local authority client works with children, young people and young adults and their families from birth up to the age of 25 providing both statutory and social care support needs. Along with various voluntary service providers including education, health and housing they ensure a holistic package of support is in place to promote positive outcomes for children and young adults including a clear focus on the young person’s transition to adulthood. This may include assessment, care planning, reviewing, safeguarding work, information, guidance and advice on local, universal provision and services in the borough, Short Breaks (respite), as well as Child in Need, Child Protection, Looked After Children statutory services and Care Act Assessments and support planning for young adults over the age of 18. We are looking for an experienced Social Worker with experience in statutory Disability services who share our values of working as one team and finding better and more innovative ways of doing things within the service.
Your role
To provide a social work service to disabled children, young people & families arising out of the Council's duties and powers under legislation and regulations, Council and Departmental policies and procedures.
To hold a complex caseload, including cases in court proceedings, and undertake a range of duties and responsibilities on behalf of the Department specified in the Children's Act 2004, Every Child Matters, Care Act for over 18s and such other legislation as is or may be appropriate to work with children, young people and their families.
Investigate cases of alleged neglect, ill treatment or abuse of disabled children and to make enquiries as to the need to provide services to such children, instigate Child Protection procedures or an application to a court for an appropriate order in respect of disabled children.
Undertake assessments of disabled children and young people and their siblings, to inform the development of appropriate care/cin/protection plans to ensure statutory duties are met and these support the achievement of quality standards and practice development.
Design and implement care/cin/protection plans in complex situations using a variety of intervention methods in order to develop needs-led packages of care and provide innovative care packages within budgetary constraints in conjunction with services provided by the Department, and independent agencies.
Undertake the visits of children, monitoring and reviewing care packages, in order to ensure that these continue to meet identified needs.
Prepare reports, statements and such other legal documents as may be required in relation to children and young persons in both criminal and family proceedings courts within the relevant time-scales to attend court and represent the Department.
Provide mentoring/support to ASYE Social Workers and contribute to the assessment of their practice. Joint work complex case work with ASYE Social Workers encouraging the development of high-quality standards and practice Deliver a creative program of research briefings, evidence-based practice information and Systemic case discussion groups to promote practice development for individual social workers and the teams as a whole
About you
You will need to be to a person centred and pro-active analytical thinker, with embedded experience of working in an integrated setting with disabled children and young people and experience of safeguarding. You will also need to be a strong team worker, who brings ideas for service delivery and in partnership with parents and young people. You will be part of developing and supporting a comprehensive service for Disabled Children and Young People and their families arising out of the Council's duties and powers under legislation and regulations, Council and Departmental policies and procedures. You will work in accordance with guidelines set out by local management and to make appropriate use of statutory, independent and voluntary resources. You will demonstrate a high level of professionalism, ensuring professional social work standards are maintained at all times.
You will need to have 2 years post ASYE experience or 3 years PQE.
