Sister/Charge Nurse

This is a challenging but rewarding role that involves working as part of a team managing patient care and ensuring that patients presenting with cardiological needs to the RVI are met. The patient group we care for is changeable and interesting from acute short stay admissions to chronic cardiac disease and end of life care. We have a cardiology day unit which has expanded the scope services we can offer. The cardiology services at the RVI also work closely with the cardiothoracic services at the Freeman. There are development opportunities within the department including coronary care nursing and a ward based leadership and management role.

Main duties of the jobRole responsibilities include
Provide effective support and leadership to staff, patients and carers within the ward or department. Act as role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff, students and associated roles. Delivering care to patients with acute and chronic cardiac problems on a 17 bed Cardiology ward and a recent addition of a 4 chair Cardiology day unit Supporting the Senior Sister acting as a deputy in her absence providing effective support and leadership to staff, patients and carers within the ward/department, focusing on providing high standards of care, patient safety, infection control, a clean safe environment and effectively manage nursing resources. Working as part of multidisciplinary team supporting collaborative working between associated departments.

To support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse, acting as a deputy when the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse is absent. In areas within the organisation nurses may be banded at 6 by virtue clinical reasons, for example, critical care. Provide effective support and leadership to both staff, patients and carers within the ward or department. Act as role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students. Ensure systems are in place to provide the continuity of safe effective care for patients at all times. Effective member of the multi-disciplinary team
