Senior UX/UI Designer - Shopify

The Senior UX/UI Designer is responsible for collaborating with product teams to drive discreet design projects independently, focusing on tactical design work to deliver solutions to known problems. They also mentor junior designers and contribute to timeboxed improvement initiatives, bringing their expertise in user research and data analysis to play a strategic role in the design process.
Duties and Responsibilities
Tactical Design Execution:
Use design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Maze to execute high-quality design work
Collaborate with product teams to drive discreet design projects independently, focusing on tactical design work and delivering solutions to known problems
Apply expertise in user research and data analysis to play a strategic
role in the design process and ensure designs align with client visions and UX strategy
Ensure that local design decisions align with the group's UX strategy and wider client visions
Team Development:
Provide individual mentoring or coaching to junior designers to support their growth and development
Contribute to timeboxed improvement initiatives to continuously improve the design practice
Communication:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, development, and client services, to ensure project success and alignment with business objectives
Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure alignment on design decisions and project goals.
Performance Criteria
Tactical Design Execution:
Percentage of design projects completed within established timelines and budgets
Average satisfaction rating from clients and product teams regarding the quality of design work
Team Mentoring and Coaching:
Average satisfaction rating from junior designers regarding mentorship and coaching provided by the Senior UX/UI Designer
Percentage of junior designers working with the Senior UX/UI Designer who achieve performance goals and receive positive performance reviews
Practice Improvement:
Number of departmental practice improvement initiatives contributed to or led by the Senior UX/UI Designer
User Research and Data Analysis:
Number of user research and data analysis projects completed by the Senior UX/UI Designer
Average satisfaction rating from client and product teams regarding the Senior UX/UI Designer's contributions to user research and data analysis in design projects
Required Qualifications & Core Competencies
Experience in UX/UI design with a focus on e-commerce and Shopify
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, developers, and stakeholders
Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, user research methodologies, and design thinking processes
Proficiency in design software such as Figma, Sketch, and Adobe Creative Suite
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and rationale to both technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Graphic Design, User Experience, Human-Computer Interaction, or Psychology
Extensive experience with Shopify and other e-commerce platforms
Experience with user research and data analysis techniques
Experience in mentoring and coaching junior designers
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
Experience in driving practice improvement initiatives
A portfolio showcasing a range of successful design projects, including branding and website design
Familiarity with agile development methodologies
Knowledge of front-end development technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
