And, as energy generation becomes more diverse, we help clients move from analogue to digital systems to manage real-time data and make smarter decisions about energy dispatch and use.Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!The OpportunityWe are seeking a Senior Urban Energy Consultant with a personal dedication to climate action and sustainable development to bring technical expertise and strategic thinking to address the trials of low carbon energy systems and climate resilient/sustainable development in cities, and to develop project and client management capabilities alongside the expertise of your colleagues. As a Senior Consultant, you will have multiple project management tasks and will be supported by a team offering management, mentorship and strategic direction. You can expect to work across a variety of projects on both management (project manager) and supporting (technical expert) roles. You would also participate in business development and work winning.The role requires a sound appreciation of challenges and solutions related to low carbon energy infrastructure and buildings, climate change mitigation and/or adaptation, especially within an urban context.Guided by the specific skill set you bring, in this permanent post you may be involved with projects such as: Heat network engineering and modelling; Preparing energy masterplans and energy infrastructure feasibility studies; Whole energy systems decarbonisation strategies and investment plans at portfolio, campus and citywide scale; Development of an investment case for low carbon and climate resilient projects; Development of commercial and governance models for the delivery of urban energy infrastructure and large-scale programmes and services; Integrated sustainability and resilience frameworks and action plans and Stakeholder engagement strategies and workshops. Your role may include:Preparing concept and scheme designs of urban energy infrastructure such as heat networks, microgrids and other smart local energy systems ;Techno-economic and whole energy system systems modelling; Preparing business cases including commercial and governance models; Developing comprehensive strategies and policy recommendations and preparing compelling client- and public-facing reports and tools including data and concept visualisation.Our work is global in scope and requires a strong appreciation of challenges and opportunities across geographic regions. Is this role right for you?Qualifications in engineering or physics however other relevant qualifications or equivalent will be considered where low carbon energy infrastructure systems or buildings were a prominent feature of study / Membership of a relevant professional institution or having experience which meets relevant chartership criteria.Skills in low carbon energy consulting or project delivery, which may include energy engineering (infrastructure or buildings); energy system modelling and masterplanning; project economic and financial analysis; and energy-related policy development.Proven experience working in a relevant field of consulting, government, industry, public or non-profit sector.Skilled with data analysis (quantitative/qualitative) and modellingWriting ability in technical and non-technical reports.It would be ideal if you have an appreciation of energy in an urban context, including heat networks, microgrids and other smart local energy systems along with experience of urban energy infrastructure detailed design, construction and operation.Appreciation of whole energy systems and technologies. Competency in modelling and computation using Excel or coding (Python, R, VBA, etc.) would also be advantageous.
