Role Summary:

As a Senior Technician in Asset Management, you will be responsible for inspecting, assessing, and recording the condition of highway infrastructure, prioritising maintenance needs, and designing improvement schemes. You will also liaise with stakeholders, manage activities on the highway network, and ensure compliance with statutory obligations.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, assess, and record the condition of highway infrastructure.
  • Identify and prioritise highways maintenance needs, considering customer needs and budget constraints.
  • Establish solutions meeting engineering, budgetary, and environmental requirements.
  • Respond to enquiries courteously and positively.
  • Design maintenance and minor improvement schemes.
  • Represent the County Council at public meetings and consultations.
  • Manage and control activities of others on the highway network.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • RQF Level 4 qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • EngTech with a relevant body or equivalent experience.
  • Some experience in designing and supervising highways maintenance works.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., Civil 3D, MX, AutoCAD).
  • Some experience with drainage modelling software (preferably Micro Drainage).

Decision Making Areas:

  • Identifying and recommending appropriate treatments for works on the highway network.
  • Discussing and negotiating works with stakeholders and elected members.
  • Prioritising works based on safety, need, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensuring works comply with health and safety guidance and legislation.
  • Deciding on design solutions for highway maintenance schemes.

Working Conditions:

  • Communication with colleagues and contractors in challenging environments.
  • Ability to fulfil travel requirements.
  • Some out-of-hours working in emergencies, flooding, and extreme weather.
