Senior Technical Assistant

The Senior Technical Assistant will provide a pivotal role in supporting technical operations within the organisation. Responsibilities include ensuring the smooth execution of calibration methodologies, maintaining compliance with quality standards, and assisting in various technical endeavours under the guidance of the Calibration Manager.
You will write quality procedures for instrument calibration methodologies and support the Calibration Manager to ensure continued conformity with quality procedures. You will also review and process customer calibration contracts from receipt through to delivery.
Exciting work you will be doing:
Ensure continued conformity with the requirements contained in ISO 9001 (BSI) and ISO 17025 (UKAS) through the procedures defined within Quality Manual.
Write quality procedures for calibration methodologies for a variety of instrumentation in the laboratory.
Following a period of training to become an approved (UKAS) signatory for the issue of calibration / test certificates and other quality documents
Maintain and meet Key Performance Indicators in a busy customer driven service environment.
Contribute to the company best practice and continuous improvement culture, devising new processes and optimising existing processes to drive quality and business improvements.
Work closely with other business sites, departments and colleagues to ensure a consistent approach across the organisation
Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction, including the investigation and resolution of customer complaints.
Provide technical expertise during on and off-site visits and meetings and actively support training events where needed.
The review and processing of customer calibration contracts from receipt through to delivery using bespoke software systems
Process of goods for repair or calibration with third party laboratories.
Provide technical support to hire and sales teams.
Managing enquiries by phone, e-mail or in person. This may include, but not be limited to technical advice and or the generation of quotations.
Support Lab Manager with equipment installation, maintenance and repair techniques
Production of uncertainty budgets and general maintenance of reference instrumentation and their associated records.

Skills required:
Degree in a mechanical engineering or related subject. Alternatively, at least five years experience in a technical role in a calibration laboratory or technical involvement with instruments.
Knowledge of an instrumentation, test and calibration environment.
Quality systems experience to ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 standards, ideally in a calibration laboratory with accreditation in the measurement fields of temperature, pressure or electrical.
Results focussed, demonstrated through a track record of performance improvement.
Approved UKAS signatory desirable.
Knowledge of uncertainty budgets.
Knowledge of internal auditing procedures and techniques.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
Ability to write clear and concise procedures and reports.
Flexible and pragmatic approach.
Embrace responsibility and accountability.
High personal standards with a can do way of working.
Computer literate in Microsoft packages.

Qualifications
Degree in a mechanical engineering or related subject.
