Job Title: Senior Technical Accountant (Temporary, Full Time - 3 months)
Location: Maldon, Essex (Hybrid, flexible working options considered)
Pay Rate: �450 - �600 per day dependent on experience
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technical Accountant to join a local authority in Essex on a temporary basis for a period of 3 months. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading the closure of accounts and the preparation of the Statement of Accounts, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. This position offers a competitive daily rate and an opportunity to contribute to the financial management of our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the closure of accounts and preparation of the Statement of Accounts, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Manage the external audit process, responding to queries promptly and effectively to minimise costs.
- Monitor new legislation, regulations, and accounting standards, providing analysis and advice on their impact and ensuring implementation where necessary.
- Determine and document consistent accounting policies in accordance with best practice and relevant codes of practice.
- Implement procedures to maintain control over accounting activities, including balance sheet reconciliations and asset register.
- Lead treasury management activities, including investments and borrowing, and contribute to the formulation of the treasury strategy.
- Contribute to the management of the finance team, including resource planning, allocation, and performance monitoring.
- Provide guidance and advice to stakeholders on financial matters, drawing on significant experience and knowledge in local government finance.
- Utilise excellent working knowledge of legislation and developments in local government finance to inform decision-making.
- Work with Finance systems, including Sage, to support financial operations effectively.
Requirements:
- Significant experience and knowledge of financial accounting practices within a local government context.
- Experience in dealing with year-end budgets is essential.
- Excellent working knowledge of legislation and developments in local government finance.
- Proven ability to provide sound advice and guidance on a wide range of financial topics.
- Experience working with Finance systems, including Sage
