TheSenior Supply Chain Manager is a new role reporting into the Commercial Director for a growing SME FMCG Processing and Distributer.

This is an On-Site role, leading and managing the Supply Chain department, comprising of Sourcing, Purchasing, Order and Inventory Management, Logistics (overseas imports/exports) and Supply (inbound and outbound – EU business).

You will play a pivotal role in driving strategic and operational supply chain excellence, driving cost savings and efficiencies to support the growth ambitions of this £17m t/o business.

The Senior Supply Chain will be responsible for implementing strategic supply chain initiatives as well as managing supply chain operations, ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of goods from sourcing to delivery.

With raw materials being the key category of purchases, you will be overseeing the purchasing and delivery of cost effective, safe, authentic, legally, ethically compliant, sustainable, and high-quality products that are suitable for a range of applications within the food, drink and supplement industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Supporting strategy development and execution of supply chain operations aligned with the business objectives.
  • Provide commercial insights and trends to combat challenges with supply chain operations: PESTLE (e.g., legal à Brexit, Covid, import and export regulations ETC.
  • Provide market knowledge, business intelligence & competitor benchmarking.
  • Stay abreast of the external conditions, industry trends, regulatory changes, and market dynamics to inform supply chain decisions. 
  • Support key strategic decisions and changes. 
  • Be the main point of contact for key supplier relationships,
  • Collaborate and network with external stakeholders, building links with the key suppliers, forging and sustaining relationships with old and new, leveraging industry knowledge and negotiation skills to secure favourable terms and conditions.
  • Monitor supplier performance and case managing performance related issues, reporting key risks and opportunities.

Operational Supply Chain/Procurement


  • Lead day-to-day operations of the Supply Chain / Purchasing function achieving maximum productivity with the established SLAs and KPIs being met,
  • Ensure compliance with the company’s policies and procedures, food laws, and key stakeholders' requirements including Organic, Kosher, Vegan, BRCGS certification, and brand values related to the product are achieved
  • End-to-End procurement oversight: direct the entire purchasing lifecycle, encompassing identifying the business need, supporting sourcing, supplier selection, negotiation, contractual terms, and performance evaluation.
  • Ensure that key supply chain parameters affecting working capital meet the business need, and are managed, accurate and up to date (commercials, lead time, supplier payment terms).
  • Holistic management of the purchasing function in line with the sourcing plan; making adjustments to the plan based on the changes in the internal/external environment.
  • Ensuring that souring initiatives are project managed in line with the business need.
  • Supporting the team with the tender evaluation and approval based on commercial and technical factors; choosing the best option for the business.
  • Conduct top level spend analysis to control or optimize the costs and increase efficiency
  • Contribute to making the Procurement department an effective service provider for other departments. Collaborating with key stakeholders (Bulk Sales, Retail Sales, Operations and Technical) to understand their needs and ensure their expectations are being met.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable import/export laws, regulations, and customs requirements.
  • Provide input in the NPD/EPD in terms of supply chain intelligence (supply chain opportunities & risks), sourcing and delivery in line with the established processes.
  • Lead, manage and develop a team of supply chain professionals to the best of their capabilities and knowledge. Providing guidance, coaching, and performance management in line with the key objectives. Promoting a climate of accountability, openness, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Face-to-face meetings with top 10 suppliers periodically (trade shows, site visits).

PERSON SPECIFICATION


  • Strategic mindset with commercial and business acumen
  • Proven ability of dealing with ambiguity. Resilient to pressure, ability to think correctly under pressure.
  • Track record of success in implementing strategic supply chain initiatives, procurement operations and developing/leading a team
  • Global mindset and experience managing supplies based overseas
  • Experienced in working in complex, changing environments with high standards of governance
  • A critical thinker with a systematic approach to work, who can act decisively
  • Excellent risk identification/management, analytical, fact-based decision-making, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex supply chain issues
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Good communication and organization skills are vital for this role to liaise with the internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of different Supply Chains and Supply Markets
  • Knowledge and understanding of import/export trader regulations, customs procedures, and international supply chain management practices.
  • Degree educated or equivalent in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
