We are working alongside an international and highly reputable auction house to assist in their search for a Senior Specialist for 20th Century Decorative Arts and Design.Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct detailed appraisals and write scholarly catalog entries for a variety of 20th century decorative arts objects.
* Assist with the acquisition and consignment of high-quality pieces, ensuring a diverse and appealing selection for auctions.
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with collectors, dealers, and other stakeholders in the modern and contemporary decorative arts market.
* Participate in the planning and execution of departmental sales strategies to meet and exceed financial targets.
* Contribute to the production and proofreading of auction catalogues to ensure accuracy and appeal.
* Represent Bonhams at external events, including fairs, exhibitions, and other relevant gatherings, to enhance the company's reputation and network.
* Provide expert advice and market insights to clients and colleagues, fostering an informed and enthusiastic departmental atmosphere.
* Stay informed of market trends and academic research in the field of 20th century decorative arts to maintain a competitive edge.
* Support the department head in daily operations and strategic planning.Skills Required:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Art History, Design, or a related field, with a focus on 20th century decorative arts.
* Several years of professional experience in a related role, preferably within an auction house or a major gallery specializing in modern and contemporary design.
* Extensive knowledge of 20th century decorative arts, with particular expertise in significant movements and designers within the Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau & Art Deco periods.
* Proven experience in the valuation, negotiation, and sale of high-quality decorative arts objects.
* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, especially in appraisal and research tasks.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and client service skills.
* Proficiency in using IT systems relevant to the auction business, including inventory and client management software.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
