We now have a rare opportunity for an ambitious and experienced colleague to be appointed as our Senior Scrutiny Officer, who will also fulful the role of our Statutory Scrutiny Officer.The postholder will lead the team and manage the two Assistant Scrutiny Officers.The Scrutiny Support Team plays an important role in supporting the Council’s four Scrutiny Boards discharge their scrutiny responsibilities. The team provides policy support to scrutiny Councillors through research, supporting detailed investigations and delivering some of the administrative support to ensure scrutiny is as efficient and as effective as it can be.The team also provides policy support to other councillors and works closely with the Council’s Corporate Leadership Team.You will either have a degree in a relevant area or significant relevant work experience and will undertake research and provide high quality briefings for Councillors and senior officers.You will maintain awareness of local and national policy developments and will provide support through research, analysis, preparing reports and co-ordinating consultation exercises. You will report to the Head of Legal and Democratic Services.Relationship management is at the core of effective scrutiny and policy support and you will be able to work effectively with both senior people within the Council and in partner organisations, staff at all levels in the Council and, most importantly, Calderdale citizens.You will have an understanding of the role of local government and will be a clear and effective communicator, both in writing and verbally.You will need to be IT literate. You will have some experience of research and policy development and of managing projects to a timetable.
