Senior Scientist - Silicon Anode

As a Senior Scientist Silicon Anode, you will be responsible for driving supplier technical interactions contributing to the down selection and recommendation of next generation silicon anode materials to ensure delivery of these materials for cell development projects.



The focus of this role will be to support the R&D, Product Engineering and Procurement functions working out of the UK to coordinate and drive cell development projects focussing on silicon anode technologies. Including recommendation, assessment and down selection of silicon anode materials based on specific project requirements.



This is an opportunity to join a well-established and growing R&D team focusing on supply chain interactions and state of the art offerings in order to guide and drive cell development from a material point of view.





Key Duties & Responsibilities:




  • Work at the interface between Agratas R&D, Product Engineering, Global Procurement and Suppliers to define and select future silicon anode materials and components.

  • Drive and coordinate silicon anode cell development projects.

  • Draft material specifications for RFI and RFQ

  • Contribute within the team to material/technology landscaping

  • Contribute as part of a team to ensure that material roadmaps and supply chains align with technology upgrades and development projects.

  • Identify and communicate material trends and risks to the wider R&D team and company.

  • Assess, compare and translate supplier technical capabilities for the wider company

  • Engage with and foster productive technical relationships with suppliers, digest and contextualise complex scientific concepts in discussion.

  • Ensure decisions are driven by company values to deliver high performance, cost effective and environmentally friendly batteries

  • Ensure adequate safety procedures are in place for the evaluation and receipt of development stage samples.





Essential Experience




  • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science or a related subject.

  • Experience with RFI and RFQ processes

  • Subject matter expert in silicon anode battery materials with a well-rounded understanding of battery technology

  • Experience in chemical or electrochemical data analysis and interpretation



Desired Experience




  • Understanding of supplier validation processes

  • Strong grasp of materials characterisation techniques and their outputs for quality

  • Experience of cell development

  • Additional industrial experience from within the battery materials supply chain is highly advantageous.

  • Understanding of the strict confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information involved in material transfer agreements, non-disclosure agreements and jint-development agreements.
