An internationally renowned chemical business based in Berkshire is currently recruiting for a Senior R&D Engineer to join its world-class tribology team on a permanent basis. As Senior R&D Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for complex R&D projects relating to powertrain systems and tribology – whilst having the ability to deliver technical data back to stakeholders.This role will be reporting into multiple Managers (including US based), so a strong communicator coupled with a solid academic foundation in Engineering is essential.Manage engineering activities to meet established project objectives. Designs approach, test plans, and milestones to project completion.Evaluates and interprets data, performance, and deliverables. Provides recommendations to R&D and stakeholders regarding results, deliverables, progress and challenges. Identifies and eliminates hurdles to successful project completion.Lead technical and/or project reviews and presents findings as appropriate. Engages with assigned teams and cross-functional stakeholders, such as business, process, marketing.Complete complex simulations, in-depth engineering analysis and interpretation and provide a detailed and accurate assessment to the customer in a timely manner. Evaluate all test/project data to ensure accuracy, completeness and reasonability of conclusions.Complete collation of data, final interpretation and written reports. Consult with the customer as necessary to review and explain results, offer insight and analytical perspective and ensure that project goals are being met.Develop and communicate overall roadmap for assessing technology gaps, building new methodologies, and capitalising on proven capabilities.Lead or direct special research projects independently.Understand, comply, and promote safe laboratory and work practices, including appropriate safety regulations and procedures.Assure that complete documentation is maintained on ISO or Quality System related activities. Participate in Quality System related activities and maintain an up-to-date understanding of the Quality System functions & responsibilities.Participate in IP activities as required, including competitor reviews, freedom to practice assessments, patent filings, invention disclosures, etcPhD level qualification in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. MSc will be considered if you bring relevant industry experience.Expert level knowledge and understanding of specific engineering principles and application of those principals in a research and development environment. R&D experience in tribology would be highly beneficial.Relevant work experience in design, development and analysis of powertrain systems or tribological studies.Management of small team of scientists/engineersDemonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders.Excellent administrative and organisational competencies.Excellent analytical and communication skills.Ability to think outside of the box – have a commercial understanding behind your work and initiative to communicate with cross-functional divisions.
